Should I Agar?

I got about 3 syringes coming the mail of various spores , and 4jars. I'm ready to knock these babies up! But people have been advising me to use agar to isolate the best myc. But in my mind that seems very time consuming and will extend the time I will have to wait for some fruits !
I'm so use to jumping into it and injecting with syringes , I've never really had any problems. But I was curious about this agar thing . Should I honestly take all this time to purchase all the supplies , and everything . or just go ahead and inject in my SAB today once the syringes arrive ? Let me know what you guys think .

Agar is great. I've dropped my contamination rate by quite a bit. And have been able to save clones that are really good.
Definitely recommended.

Agar needn't take a lot of supplies or time if you follow the right tek http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19208976

You don't NEED a PC for agar.

just use the syringes but make sure to leave like 1cc or so in them to use with agar. you don't need much, and that will give you something to do while you wait for the first grow colonise etc.

i'm just getting into agar myself and i don't have a PC. so far it doesn't seem to be a problem steaming the old fashioned way.

Hi Shroomer... I wouldn't rush out to get more syringes just yet. My first 4 syringes have kept me very busy over the past 2 months and so far so good. The syringes go a long way on agar, plus whatever you end up fruiting from MS you can then print and continue the cycle.
So far I have 2 tubs about to fruit, 2 tubs colonizing, 12 plates that have made their 3rd transfer and are now ready to transferred to grain or turned into LI. And I still have 1 untouched syringe and 1 mostly untouched syringe (only a ml) taken for agar.
Did you get all different strains?

I think bod posted something like this awhile back I copied it to my journal.
PC/Steam Times BRF jars - PC 60-90 minutes, Steam 90-120 minutes, Agar - PC 10-15 minutes, Steam 30-45 minutes

i want to try some steam experiments so I can write a tek for the poor kids ---Kinda to lazy and have no space though hahaha I'm a dreamer
--- Wow, One of my plants look really sad. Growing really slow (like, half the height of the others) and the leaves seem to be curling up... Gonna try and get some pics tonight to see what everyone thinks

The thing that isn't always apparent to new growers (wasnt to me) is t"bvv'vvb"v" hat spore syringes are rarely clean . Might even be enough to be put to grain. If you have only worked with BRF then its no wonder, BRF is pretty forgiving in that aspect, it is actually pretty rare to contaminate PF cakes with most syringes from good vendors. You might even get away with putting spores straight to grain for a bit too but you will eventually find that is only luck.
Most of my plates inoculated from spore syringe show some bacteria or even mold. What makes agar such an awesome tool is how you are able to isolate clean growth away from contams onto new plates, you can be relatively sure you are working with a clean culture.
Being able to produce clean grain spawn is everything in this hobby!
Cloning, strain isolation, short and long term storage of live cultures are other awesome reasons to work with agar!

It will take me awhile to grasp all the aspects of agar ! I like to know almost everything about something before jumping right in ! But thanks to everyone who commented . I've always to do things right with no contam. This is the first time I've even heard about agar. But Once the hobby gets ahold of you its got you!
For this attempt I will just knock up the jars w the syringes just like normal and go from there . next month I will get some agar ! For my second tub This is also my first try at a mono. I normally do just cakes in a SGFC So wish me luck
