12/12 lighting. Mushrooms have a circadian rhythm.
Those cakes look dry as fuck. Roll them in verm and mist the hell out of them.
Put foil squares or jar lids under the cakes.

Well , you guys couldn't have guessed better xD cakes were too dry , also the light seemed to help a lot. im now getting a new layer of clean healthy looking mycelium (rather moist ( not dry ) mycelium growing over the cake heh. hopefully see some pins in the next week or two ) its not a huge loss anyways . I have much more spawn in jars I was just being impatient and wanted to see some action haha so I decided to crack a few of my spawn jars , I keep myself a busy bee so being impatient isn't an issue ( rather over enthusiasm , ive learned the over enthusiasm lesson many times over with other projects and what not haha ) Glad to have learned from that mistake !
Im starting to learn what spawn is supposed to look like, like everything else trial and error seems to be a great way of learning

You got the right attitude. I'm sure you'll get as far in mycology as you want.

Been hunting wild ones too , learning to identify them. Actually putting the few mushroom books on my shelf ive read over the years to use ! you know , this is how it always starts ... this is how it started with the farming too ( not the same way but same nature ) I got curious , curiousity turned into fascination/life long hobby fairly quickly !
I got quite alot of spawn jars colonizing , plan to keep making more at least once a week and knockin em with my two + pints of good clean LC I managed to make from a 8+ month old spore syringe that sat at room temp
Will take pics of my spawn tommorrow or the next day, im wiped from working on the farm thanks again guys your encouragment and help means the world to me <3 pardon my spelling errors im slightly medicated

heres some spawn , the first jar I knocked only two days ago with LC it colonizes pretty fast . Decided to crumble the "cakes" I was trying to fruit , threw one of them in a container with coco coir as a casing. the other one I used pro mix soil mix and another one is about 25% coir and 75% pro mix soil mix.
I have fully colonized jars atm that im gonna let sit for another few weeks before I put in the chamber to make sure the middle is colonized and that it pins !

"Sterilizing " some coffee grounds in a ziplock freezer bag in the microwave for the hell of it, gonna shoot 5ML of LC i have
Figured why not do it as an experiment , I got plenty of LC and the coffee grinds are free. once its cool in a few hours im gonna whipe down with alcohol inoculate with LC and throw a bandaid over it !

Glad to here , thanks jacob !!
what do you think about my "unconventional" casing layers ? ( i suppose pro mix soil mix isnt so unconventional though )

Made a "new" kind of spawn. grinded up a bunch of WBS, the other jar is grinded WBS mixed with salvaged materials ( coco coir , newspaper , coffee grinds that i pasturized and blended up ) one of my containers that I cased is giving off a sour fermentation smell like that of wild yeast, gonna dispose of that . the one with coir is slowly being taken over by mycelium. its about at 10% right now ( think I didnt cut the coir fine enough but oh well :P )
some spawn i did in the past is now making knots , stronger rhizomorphic growth ( seems it was taken over few days ago ) and what im hoping is pins ( one of the reasons I also grinded WBS is because i cant tell if its pinning lol ) Lets hope I can see some dang fruits soon ! xD ( im not one to be turned away by failure )

And so it begins ! my mini bulk tubs are doing great particularly the one the casing layer is almost half taken over, cant wait for it to start pinning ! making more new spawn as always! at this rate ill eventually have to get multiple fruiting chambers up and figure out a situation for a bigger fruiting chamber type environment
