Random 5 year chart of my ISP speed

My ISP about a month ago sent a letter saying that i need to upgrade my modem to a 3.0, i checked and they were right on that part, i had a 2.0
I do so, and notice that my experience is worse now then it was with my 2.0 modem. So i run a test on Speedtest, and still it's still slow. Granted i have the economy plan, the speeds im getting still do not match the advertised speeds on my plan.
I say false advertisement!

What are your speeds?, and what is your plans advertised speeds?

Is this on a wired or wireless connection? That's pretty bad

Get a program called namebench. It will show you which dns servers to connect to. The default dns settings companies provide you with are garbage.

They sell you a connection with speed up to X mb/s. So for example the plan that says up to 5mb/s is a guarantee that you shall never ever go over 5mb/s.

Faster DNS servers won't do you any good for an established connection like streaming your zoo porn etc.

Yeah I downloaded and ran it, it boosted my speed by 17percent but I still can't watch 720p without freezing. I think it might have somthing to do with the type of cable the company has running to my home, one time the cable guy was telling me about it but I really didn't understand. I'll go to my isp and try to get some info.

I suspect the cable guy was giving you the mushroom treatment.

"Speeds up to" generally means that you're only going to get the "promised" speed when other ISP users aren't hogging all the bandwidth. Implying ISPs themselves have limited bandwidth capabilities to distribute to their clients.
