Thoughts on the idea or theory of destiny or a predetermined path and where/how the conscious fits
    #22369562 - 10/12/15 05:49 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Having choice as humans, being able to change ones surroundings or effects on the the way things play out in any given life.

I've heard of the thought of the idea of destiny, where things happen the way they do even if we think we have any control, they're still going to happen that way because it's been set or predetermined to happen that way.

Does this consciousness or conscience have any effect on the way these things play out?  The ability to play out scenarios in ones mind to attempt to see the various outcomes and to choose the best?

Are we really on rails here? Do we really have no option or chance to change this so called destiny?

On one hand I think it's somewhat silly, but if I think about it, how would one know if we're not all supposed to be exactly where we are and doing things that we really have no control because it's already been written or set that that's the way it's going to happen.

Thoughts/ opinions/discuss.

I'm of to work.

I personally do not believe in clockwork determinism, so I feel events are more or less likely to happen, but that the improbable can always happen, and things can always change.  That said, I feel the universe has much more of a say in our lives than we do -- we're just puny human individuals in a gigantic cosmos, anyway.  I do not believe we have "free" will, but I do believe we have a will that is genetically and culturally constrained.  So we can effect actions in the world that are not automatic, although I further believe that humans act virtually automatically most of the time.  But consciousness is always there at the bottom of things, so humans are indeed not robots.

As I said, our will has an outlet in reality, but it is very tiny.  Nature and chance have much more of a say in how our lives will go than we do.  So really, to pit free will against fate is wrong, because even if our will is free, the hand of earthly happenings determines much more than our will ever could.  It is not until you get to the Caesars or Napoleons (or Christs) that an individual will shapes events meaningfully.  But I think, in our lives as humans, there is always wiggle room to execute our will in a small way.  But it can always be nixed by happenings.

I've had instances where I was in a situation, most of the time just random points of being in time, where I was able to see and live an event and then have that same instance or event happen exactly the way I've seen it happen, down to the words that people say. Sometimes it was weeks or months between the time I 'saw' the instance play out and it actually happening. Most times it was only moments, say 30-45 seconds of the event where things played out pretty much exactly how I had seen them before.

I agree that we are so very tiny within this vast universe that many of the things that have happened or will happen are very much random and chanced. It has taken billions of years to come to this point in time, time in which many humans have difficulty comprehending, seeing how we live very short lives.

That's interesting -- I've heard of that happening.  I assume it is possible.  I think advanced beings would be able to connect, for example, two events in time, so that a future event could influence or cause a past event to happen.  There is actually some evidence for backward-in-time causation in the subatomic realm, so I think it is physically possible.

I really, really hope there is some 'order' to love. Not necessarily 'just one for you' but like, at a certain time, at a certain place, the universe will reveal someone to you. If your lives are aligned, if your natures are aligned, you'll walk straight into her. If you change, the universe will select someone else. Or something.

Just hope it means something.

The universe is alive.
