Can I get someones eyes on this yellow patch?
    #22369228 - 10/12/15 04:46 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys, I'm a new member and new to mycology (this is my first batch ever...) so please bear with me.

These pics were taken at 2 weeks from inoculation. The yellowing has been present since about 5 days in and is concentrated at the 4 holes where the needle went. This yellowing occurred in all of my jars.

I'm assuming this is bacteria (although I haven't noticed any strong smells yet). I've decided to wait this one out and see if the mycelium can win out, but will this have a negative impact on the fruiting stage? (If I even get that far...My other jars all have mold)

Yeah idk if it's bacterial or not for the first PIC. Definitely not supposed to do that .

Obviously contaminants will weaken fruiting. If it doesn't contaminate terribly, you'll have a much lower yield than you could have

Well I've heard bacterial contaminations are mostly transmitted by contact, so I guess I got a bad syringe? (since the affected areas were underneath the holes on all of my jars)

I did make sure to sterilize my area with alcohol and torched the needle for each jar, so I'm hoping this was just bad luck and not bad practice.

Ah well - as a first try I'll be happy if I get anything at all!

That looks more like a liquid discoloration than anything actually growing that color. From What this noob has read that suggests metabolites (seemly called myc piss) and is not anything that seems to upset anyone. In other words they are not contaminated, however being a noob myself I'd take that with a grain of salt. Good luck, hopefully they are healthy still.

Just an update - all my jars in this batch have mold now, ugh. Only one remaining jar in my second batch left mold free - wish me luck.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Oh well back to the drawing board to review your procedures for cleanliness and sterility. Since it has effected virtually all your jars that would point to something, some procedure, they all have in common such as your PC'g, your spore source, or your noc procedures. Good luck with the next try.
