Do you always have to dunk and roll after incolation?

I'm confused if i have to dunk and roll my BRF cakes once fully colonized before putting in fruiting chamber. Do I have dunk and roll after incolation/colonized stage or can I just put my BRF cake into the fruiting chamber without the dunk and roll step. If it isn't a nessecary step why to people do it ?? If it is a nessecary step what the purpose?

Do you absolutely have to do it? No. Should you do it? Yes 100% if you want better flushes
The main purpose of the 24 hour dunk is to hydrate the cake after its time colonizing in the jar. The verm roll is to help retain moisture around the surface of the cake and give a better, more humid, micro-climate for the mycelium.

If your cakes are 100% colonized, and you've given them the extra week to consolidate they're pretty resistant. But I still bake my verm in the oven for 30 mins or so, just to be sure. Good luck

I havent made cakes in years and years. What we used to do is just birth them with a wet verm layer on the top and bottom. We'd get about an 3.5g first flush constantly.
If I were to make cakes again I would dunk and roll. We just didnt know to do this. I wonder what average yields are like now.

I hoping to harvest more than a few grams but it's my first go threw and I'm not doing anything to crazy until I really understand the growth cycle of the mushrooms , more simply methods for now which im sure will wield less fruits

I'd say one other key item to success is to make sure you construct a proper SGFC, 1/4" holes on all 6 sides, 2 inches apart, as that will have a big bearing on the yield. Plus fill it with 4-5 inches of drained perlite

3.5g was dried weight, so 35g wet. I dunno if this helps, maybe you wanted more. We werent using SGFC's either, just constant misting and fanning.
I dunno what they are pulling now, but there is only so much nutes in a cake. I would imagine it would be quite a bit more, especially first flush.
I would consider checking out bulk. You can get a lot more in the same space. I understand wanting to keep it simple in the beginning. Which is important cause you need to get some skills down first, and cakes are very forgiving.

35g wet sounds like a lot lol and yeah I figure if I can grown them this way it will help me grow in bulk in the future Theres so much information and different methods, it gets confusing! But once I get my method down and supplies hopefully I'll be okay lol

Cool yeah, depending on your genetics/care thats prob what I would expect. Which will be a decent two doses per cake.
When I first grew them. We were so excited and thought hey we did this ourselves they're prob not that strong. Split a dozen cakes worth of fresh between two people cause we didnt wanna wait till they were dry. Not realizing how much it was. It was really intense and not that much fun to be honest.

This guy was only 59g wet and I'm too embarrassed of it to post it in any of the monster fruit threads.
Also OP your terminology suggests confusion on your part. You never dunk and roll after inoculation, you let jars sit for 3-4 weeks after inoculation. You dunk and roll after birthing the cakes.

This is what is in your typical cake

PF's comments
With some simple math and a little analysis, it can be readily seen that PF substrate is well over 100% "Biological Efficiency". RipSnort reports that his Treasure Coast shroom fruiting was had by quartering a PF cake and using the 4 pieces in seperate containers in which the quartered pieces were cased. This means that each fruiting tray above contains about 1/16 of a cup of brown rice powder and about twice as much vermiculite, plus the casing.
In a normal PF 1/2 pint cake, there is about 31 grams of brown rice powder (1/4 cup) and about 17-20 grams of vermiculite (1/2 - 2/3 cup) which adds up to about 50 grams dry weight.
31g of rice is not a lot. This was the leftover barley grain at the bottom of a jar about 450ml which stuck when shaking it out. I stuck a casing on it and it is still giving fruits.

I was also fairly disappointed how this strain performed too. I think people hear "bulk" and figure it needs to be a big setup.
