They would be better off with me as a guide than any of those dipshits.

You might be surprised on that one. Several of the yoga people that I know have a decent amount of experience with shrooms and LSD, and some of the meditation/yoga practices provide the right kind structure to keep a trip from going bad. It's probably a pretty good choice if they're going to pick somebody for a sitter. Personally, I'd rather just be left alone to manage my own shit, but If I were forced to have a sitter, than one of those guys wouldn't be an awful choice.

I didn't say they would be awful. I said I would be better. And I would certainly cut through their nonsense.

No wonder they need guides

I've done a little yoga, and a wee little bit of meditation on a few occasions with the kind of guys that they're picking for those studies. If you don't indulge in the mystical bullshit that goes with it, it's definitely got some utility for drug trips. They're probably spending time getting the subjects mind on the right track so they don't have panic attacks and that kind of shit. And yoga is way more fun when you're tripping balls, sort of like how dancing is more fun. I'm sure the meditation stuff they do with them is a pretty good setup for a trip too. I'm guessing that they provide a loose structure for them to refocus on when The yoga guys a way better choice for a sitter than a psychologist would be. I'm guessing that the people in these studies are taking pretty low doses of psilocybin too, so I doubt they need much support other than not being fucked with.
And ya, I'd want my own choice of music at the very least. This is what happens when you do drugs in somebody's research lab when they're sober. They think they know what you want do better than you do. I can't imagine it's fun tripping with an IV in your arm for 8+ hours either though.

The nonsense is part of the package. It certainly contributes to efficacy.

So is football. I knew where the ball was going.
A set up for tripping? Just trip. The world will fill the space. In construction I believe in planning. In tripping I believe in letting it happen

I'm mostly on board with that too, but I usually do some planning so I know I won't have to do anything stupid during a trip. We've got more experience than the general population with this stuff though, and lots of inexperienced people do stupid stuff like panic and call 911 when they hallucinate. I think having the guides there is just a way to minimize the risk of people loosing their shit. That's a pharmacological study after all, and they're really just interested in keeping the people safely hooked up to an IV while they trip for several hours, which I would not volunteer for or be happy about.

I usually do it alone, but I've done it in small groups too, and I learned the little mumobo jumbo I know about separately. This isn't really meant to be a fun trip though. It's only meant to be fun enough to be safe for the test subject. Most people get scared when the world starts getting weird and unpredictable, and it's good to have some safe guards in place in case stuff starts going crazy (think of the timothy Leary sized gatherings for an example of stupid lack of preparations). The researchers need somebody there in case people go crazy for legal reasons and probably for practical reasons in extreme cases too. If you've got to choose from a cop, a shrink, and a yogi, then I think the yogi is the best bet for a competent sitter. Most of the professional options that are available are completely unfit to do any sort of productive trip sitting because they specialize in normal psychology at best, while the yoga people are used to respecting weird crazy ideas. I had a friend who got locked up and put in a strait jacket in a padded room when she was a teenager simply because she was on LSD. I'll take a the mumbo jumbo guys over the official more respected professional guys any and every day for a shroom trip.

I'd feel guilty if you were sitting there sober though.

What are you on about? Talkin' outta your ass in here.
You don't strike me as the kinda of "energy" I'd wanna have around if I was tripping.
I'd choose a hip trendy yogi any day of the week, if I had to have a sitter for some reason.

I want to take the time to seriously respond to this thread but I don't even know where to begin so I won't.

I will say this though, I would way rather have a longtime practitioner of meditation and or yoga then someone who just trips fr fun present
Tripping in a ceremonial setting with traditional chanting and stuff would be very interesting and I am sure adds to the experience quite a bit.

Grunting and swaying like a dumb ape for several hours on end just doesn't seem appealing to me.
