My p. Galindoi jars. and question. [pics]

So my jars were inoculated on 7/22 so they are just about 10 days short of three months. do you think there are stones in them? they are half gallon jars knocked up from LC.
let me know what you guys think.

You see those brown spots? Those are stones....After 3 months you should have a good number of stones per half quart.
Your mycelium is surprisingly white though. Usually, my entire jar would turn a yellow/brownish color. And that banding on the third jar has me a little worried. I can't enlarge your pics anymore, but if I were going to open a jar and save the others, I'd open that third one first.

yeah i was guessing so by the dark shapes on the sides, i just dont want to jump the guns if theyd grow another 200%. guess im wondering if people saw huge yield differences between harvesting at 3 months compared to 6. ive read that they are more potent at 6 months but not sure about the yield difference.

here's a close up of the band, i think all three jars kind of have that though. i think it's where the moisture from the jar fell to the bottom.

What kind of grain is that?
Hpw long did it take for full colonization after inoc?

they look like truffles, but your jars look pretty far behind for being almost three months, ill try to post some pics when i get home from class today. iv got some half gallons that were inoculated on 8/22 so they are exactly one month behind yours, but my jars have much more truffles than yours appear to have.
you said you inoculated with LC? how sure are you that the LC was clean? your jars kind of remind me of some of mine that had some bacteria, they seemed to overcome it in the end and still produced a decent amount of truffles but they developed a lot slower than my other jars.

Yeah that was my thought as well.
Those jars look bacteria ridden.. My guess would be that it was either your inoculant, or grain prep.
Idk why you would use half gallon jars, filled all the way..

Since your using half gallons, I would let them go for 6 months to get a little more out of them.
Also, here's a healthy jar of Galindoi for comparison.

also this, you want to leave a good bit of room at the top so you can shake at 20~% if you like to do that for Galindoi (some people dont, i do) but also iv noticed when using Polyfill as your GE filter if you fill your jars too high the mycelium will sometimes grown up the glass and into your polyfill, if it does that then it will block out your gas exchange and your jars will stall, especially half gallon jars since they are more prone to becoming anaerobic to begin with. This hasnt happened to me with Galindoi yet, but it has with cubes and oysters.

it's rye grain and took about 11 days to colonize.

ignore me if you feel this is a case of rude thread jacking: but is there such a thing as letting a jar sit too long in your experience? Why not let it go a year? what would go wrong?

Sclerotia are a survival mechanism. They store water and nutrients. Eventually they will run out and start to die/rot. Usually the nine month Mark is when people say they start to lose their jars. I'm sure with larger jars (half gallon) and large grain bags you could go longer. You would have to provide them with enough GE to prevent them from going anaerobic, but only so much that the grains won't dry out.

ahh thank you! Been toying with the idea of transplanting aged sclerotia to fresh grain jars after their first jars get too old. Let them keep gaining power until I get a true philosophers stone

Heres some pictures of 2 of my half gallon jars for comparison, they were inoculated on Aug 22 and i shook them around 15%. The jars are a little more full than i would have liked them to be but there is a big enough gap from the top that i dont think they will obstruct GE.

They do not look the best, neither do mine at the moment.
Atlantis/Galindoi will create stones throughout the jar, while mex & tamp will show more on the sides, so you might get lucky and get some throughout.
I opened a white rice tray I had growing and it smelt fine but had not even the smallest stone inside. I am trying to fruit it now.

You grow on white rice? I thought white rice was bad for cultivation?
I usually get a lot against the glass with galindoi, but the largest stones seem to grow in the middle.

It was just a single tray to test that theory. I am still unsure as the others are seemingly not doing well either. In some older texts I have seen white rice being used.
I think rice suits sclerotia more as it can hold so much moisture. I also think the superior nutritional value of brown over white may be exaggerated.

those look dank. not sure what im doing wrong to not get formation like that. i used organic rye, prepared like wizards rye tek. small amount of gymp added. inoculated with LC. incubated at 85 degrees the whole time in an isolated room.
