DAMN, Penis Envy!! Nice fruits!

This is my third successful grow of psilocybin-containing mushrooms. Second time doing bulk, and first attempt at a monotub. I've spent countless hours lurking through tried-and-true methods of cultivation on these forums while acquiring a feel for the mushroom life cycle, and am a proud owner of one of Paul Stamets' books, 'Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms,' which I highly recommend growers of any skill level to have.
Well after a while, reading can only get you so far! Now comes the time where all of this knowledge is applied to facilitate the perfect growing conditions for one of our favorite species, P. cubensis! For it is only through the process of trial-and-error that we learn to refine our methods for cultivation of the mushroom while minimizing any risk of infection.
So, without further delay, here is my first flush of the Penis Envy strain in a 55 qt. monotub:

I can see now why they're called "Penis Envy." They look like thick, solid dicks! (No homo... But supportive!)
Here's a couple pics of the Sub in fruiting container:
Flush #2: Same tub different angle.

Here's a monobucket I've got simultaneously fruiting in the same location as my two tubs. I've grown partial to the monobucket; it's so easy to prepare, dunk, and is very low-maintenance, even without a liner/casing. You can easily get two or three ounces (dry) from one of these under the proper care.
Wait 'till you see tub #2 . . .

These mushrooms were cold-fruited (68-74 degrees F) which made the growing cycle slightly slower, but yielding thick, dense fruits.
I've noticed the flush cycle in this strain is very sporadic; individual fruitbodies mature at different times, and there isn't a distinct "harvest" per se. It's usually spread out over the course of a day or so before I can dunk. In addition to this, I believe my subs were attacked by a verticillum outbreak early in their intruduction to FAE. My poly-fil was stuffed a tad thick at first combined with inadequate air circulation in the room (both of which have now been fixed, as you can see in the pics). Like I said, it takes hands-on experience to truly get a feel for the mushrooms' needs and wants. You're gonna mess up; just don't GIVE UP, 'cause you'll get there! This is a very forgiving species in the first place.

Here's what makes me believe it's verticillum. See the tiny brown dots on the caps? Lots of times I have to pull up these mushroom 'caps' with very little stems on them, like they popped early or something... Dunno that there's anything that can be done about it now, except just keep pulling the contaminated 'shrooms before rot sets in. The flushes have seemed to improve as this project goes on, so that's a plus!
Just for fun, here's an image from one of my Oyster projects earlier this year (June-July):

Nice. I feel like my tub sucks compared to everyone else's.

So I recognize that these are not the largest, nor the most prolific fruiters. Perhaps in part due to its multispore genetics, substrate composition (coir + composted horse manure and straw mixture, spawned with WBS), verticillum presence, or a combination of these factors. Potency it seems, remains unaffected. If anything the short chunky fruits are concentrated in alkaloidal content.
Today I 'nocced up a few jars of Panaeolus Tropicalis tryin' to give it a go. Haven't had much success with this strain past full colonization via PF method. It seems finicky about bird seed for some odd reason. Will update with pics.
Additionally, I will be attempting to print a few of these PE caps you see here once they mature. Anyone willing to trade?

Pan trops are a different species so you'd surely be having a hard time fruiting them on PF cakes.
Also those PE had QUITE a bit more growing to do, you don't pick them as early as regular cubes.
I don't see a single 100% mature fruit, even in the dried pile. I mean, I'm sure they're fine, but you could've probably had some more weight there. And not just water weight.
3-5 of the mushrooms in this picture were picked at the ideal time, the others are slightly premature comparatively.
They might've gotten big and gnarly, but it's hard to say for sure, you seem to have totally different genetics.

Yep, try waiting for the stipe wrinkle just below the cap. I'm not sure if any of those you have will print.
Also you don't have vert, PE just has spotted/blotchy caps sometimes.

Thanks for the helpful advice Inocuole I'll try and let them develop a couple more days before picking this time.
I understand that when attempting to cultivate a new species one must adapt his technique to suit the variety one works with. That's why this time for the Pan trops, I am utilizing a horse manure-based version of the PF Tek. Hopefully that way when the jars all colonize I can just break it up into a tray and not worry about contamination during the consolidation period.

im not sure if it affected your grow at all but you should take the tape off your liner after you spawn the tub. that way it sticks to your sub as it colonizes and when the sub starts to shrink and pull from the sides the liner will just ride with it
good job too, i still haven't grown pe yet. i hear they're intense

It could be a tad dry; the humidity is so low in these mountains where I live that I don't even need a desiccant drying for these rock solid fruits... The sub itself is hydrated because I can feel the weight difference when it needs a dunk. Other than that I might mist once or twice daily when I check up on them, but other than having a fan oscillating 24/7 in the room, that's about all I do as far as maintenance.
Upon cracking the lid there is a markedly moist feel to the air, but not so much that condensation drips on my fruit bodies.
Thanks Mdahmer for the tip; I wouldn't have thought of that. I think I'll keep the tape for this grow's sake since it hasn't affected anything, and seems to hold the liner in place when I place my subs in the bathtub for a soak. Cheers!

Not quite ready. Wait until one fully opens, then Pick the rest right before they Open. Just as the veil starts to rip.

Timing is not as critical with PE as they will not be dropping spores like other types would.

The veil for PE rips way before they're mature. Please only give advice on things you actually know about. thanks.

You still haven't posted a single picture of a fully mature fruit, so when you say "They mature at different rates", what are you even looking at?

Stipe wrinkle, curvature of the cap, gills present. I don't see how letting them get any more developed would be beneficial to potency.

Maybe those won't do it but you should let at least a few of them go to see how far they'll develop. There's a reason they say PE takes longer to fruit.
That's what I mean when I say stipe wrinkle. Can't say how potency is affected, I just know PE are the ones I like more mature than less mature.

Fair enough. If they end up resembling anything like that I for sure wouldn't mind waiting a couple extra days! Still have all the fruits in tub 1 intact, half in tub 2 (its just going to have to recover), and the bucket is wall-to-wall with tiny fruit.
Will post updates as they mature. For real this time

You can pick them when they get the bell shaped caps like you have been, if that's how you really like them, but I recommend, like I said, letting at LEAST 2-3 of them grow out as far as they will so you can see all the stages these go through. Worst case scenario you get a fat dense fruit that's still potent as hell, with a cap that's flipped upward.
