I did this a few years back.
Ground up a couple grams of PEU, in a coffee grinder.
Soaked in about 20ml's or ISO 91%.
Evaped in a hot water bath (takes like 10-20 mins).
Resulted in a honey like goo ball (sugars/salts also collected), fairly small.
Ate these little goo balls with multiple people (I dont mean shared 2g reductions) at different times, all resulting in great trips. I liked it much better than eating dried mushrooms.
I first attempted this because I was trying to figure out a way to tell the psilocybn content between batchs and comparing cube strains. Someone pointed out that this wouldnt work because of the extraction of salts and sugars.
Somewhere there is a good paper/tek on this. With the listing of the different solubility psilocybn against water/alcohols.
I have also tried soaking old cakes in water and cranberry juice (not cocktail). Worked pretty well two cakes resulted in a good time.

That is a very good point. By that logic the only way to know for sure is to try. I have seen the psilocybin crystals and read many reports of it working. That being said the only way to confirm (unless you have personally done it and can say that it will yield nothing) is to test it. BTW I don't mean for that to sound rude i just have read much more confirmation of these terms than people saying that they don't work

I am going to do this in the next few days. I finally found a use for these guys.

So I will grind this down, not to a powder, but 1/4" size. Soak in alcohol for an hour or so (not sure what type yet). Or soak in water?? Filter out chunks until I get a pretty clean liquid, not expecting it to be clear liquid. Boil or evap off the alcohol. Keep remaining crystals/sludge?
Is this correct? Close? I have never done this.

I like to go to powder because of the surface area and less soak time. Although honestly I dunno if it maters, its just what we would do in the chem lab for other extractions.
At powder I didnt see much if any difference between a 10 min soak and longer (I was not using water though, except the 9%).
I forgot to add that we would just strain through a coffee filter.
Edit: Eh thinking back I believe the liquid was pretty clear at first, but as it evaps off it would get yellower and yellower. I may have been caramelizing the sugars though.
I would use a metal almost ladle size spoon, on/near a low setting on a heat coil when I wasnt trying to be exact and just get the iso out to have fun.

I found it to be quite variable in potency. Depends on the shrooms and the process. It's not extremely efficient every time. I've got a batch of vodka extract that needs a good test still. Once I finally get shit to grow again I'll be experimenting more.

Tahoe use a coffee filter to get the large particles, then ideally you would use a 5 micron filter to get the last bit of mushroom material out of the liquid. Then use a double boiler to evaporate off the liquid. Remember that alcohol has a lower boiling temp than water so you don't actually need the water boiling just slowly increase the temp until the alcohol is at a rolling boil. Leave a bit of moisture in it and finish it off in a decasant chamber if you want the crystals dry.
