Boiler out of old house
    #22362474 - 10/11/15 10:03 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Just inherited old farmhouse and some land. Well I am retrofitting the garage right now that is 25x14 and plan on doing the same to the barn. Was planning on building a RR type boiler but when I went in the basement there was a old coal fired boiler are these efficient and worth using or should I  just go ahead and build the boiler  ? The one in the basement is in excellent shape was used up until 5 yrs ago everything is still there .Need help please

Sounds like you have a good source for steam without rigging anything up, why not use it???

The way the property is laid out the house is too far away from where it is located probably ten acres apart but can be moved and building erected to house . Also don't like running in home would rather have outside so as not to be a fire hazard in a cramped spot just always made me feel uncomfortable running in the home even though it ran there from1958 to 2010. Have any ideas on how to hook up or maybe some instructions or something.?

Hello.
Not really an expert, but we have a wood-fired boiler for heating our house, so I have been forced to learn at least a bit. Not sure how similar your boiler is though...
Ours are not really constructed to generate steam, but rather hot water that stores i a big tank. The water pillar (pressure) is a couple meters, making the pressure around 5 psi? This makes it possible to heat water beyond 100 degree Celsius (boiling point at atmospheric pressure) without boiling. We also know for a fact that it is capable of producing steam .

Now I dont know if your heater is anything similar to mine (made in Italy), so this post might be totally useless, but I would be a bit hesitant if I was using mine since its power is 35 kW.
Some picture would be nice, perhaps I could be of more help then.

Good luck!
