Cactus from seed clarifications

I have just received a selection of Lophophora and Trichocereus seeds. Having never grown cactus from seed I have decide to go with http://misplant.net/SeedGrow.html as it is step by step instruction.
A few questions:
Why use distilled water?
At what depth do I "toss the seeds in"?

Most cacti seeds germinate on top of the soil including trich and loph seeds.
The use of distilled water isn't necessary but I think the point is to be as close as possible to rain water.

Use distilled water or boiled tap water - to get rid of the chlorine - or even rain water !! I just drop my seeds on top of the growing medium, then just lightly cover them with a thin layer of sand, sprinkled between thumb and finger.

Great, thanks for all the advice.
Just finished sowing half of all my seed. Kept a few back incase I am not successful at my first attempt.

Are you going to put your seed trays in plastic bags??

Yes I used plastic bags in the end, sitting on top of an old reptile warming mat I had in storage.
Ambient temperature has been around 93f though. The reptile mat has been off most of the time as it has a temperature sensor in it set at 86f.
Are bags good bad or ??
