Covering bulk sub
    #22361276 - 10/10/15 11:31 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Starting another grow and I wanna solve a problem  I've been having. Everything goes fine until colonizing the bulk sub. I don't personally use a liner because I like side pins, they're usually my biggest harvest. Every time I put foil over the top of the bulk sub for colonizing, I notice a few things once I take it off.

1. I have tons of side pins but nothing on top where the foil was laying.

2. I have a hard time getting the  top to pin properly even misting and fanning 3 times a day. I've cut back on the misting though because I think I was overdoing it a little.

I was thinking I'd get better pin results without the foil laying on it. Of course it's not supposed to pin till after you remove it anyway. I usually poke 5 holes in the top like a domino pattern, do I need more holes?

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I even waited half a week longer last time to make sure it was well consolidated and in theory ready to pin. I don't case though because I messed it up last time so I'm playing it safe till I get it down.

I've never gotten the full canopy type flushes yet. Was thinking about putting  the foil a little above the surface of the sub this time so the pins can start to form before I peel it off. Wonder if my sub has been lacking some moisture.

Monotub With 4 holes above the sub, 2 at the handles using polyfil. Think they're 1 inch, can't remember. Room has a light cast. Usually 77° ish

Are your trays lined up in there, like side by side filling the bottom of the tub wall to wall? They can work with empty space in there but they are far more efficient with wall to wall substrate...

They're wall to wall sub. I don't use trays or line it. I like side pins since they're all I usually get

But they shrink a little.so they're only wall to wall for colonizing
