LC- Too much Honey in the Water? (pics)

I did 1 Table spoon per 250ml of water. I think it was too much honey as its very brown and it looks like theres a few clumps of caramel, and thats after stirrering it with a magnetic stirrer.
Should I scratch this and redo, if so, how much ML of water per Tablespoon of Honey

Way too much honey IMO. I've never done a LC, I went to agar first, and have never looked back.
Are you planning to drop some spore solution in there? If so, it's a really bad idea.
Contaminates can easily hide within the LC, and you'll never know until you transfer to grains.
Have you heard of Pasty's agar tek. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19208976 It'll put those spores to good use!

i worked with lc a long time ago. agar is definitely more ease of mind. knowing theres nothing in there. but yeahh... waaaay to much i think. i always used vanilla karo syrup. 2 heaping table spoons per quart. an even one for pints. and it looks like you over cooked it. how did you cook it?
EDIT: and my quarts were at 8-900ml

I made my first LC a few days ago but the tek I used said that browning comrs from overcooking.
Try weighing the honey for good ratio. Its what I did and mine looks fine. Used it on jars already and they seem to be doing great

Was it that brown before you cooked it? Could just be that its over cooked, and the color is from the Carmel in solution.
I think I only used honey once or twice years and years ago at about that ratio. I switched to karo shortly after, with better success.

I do 2 teaspoons for 400 mL. PC for 15 min. depending on the original color of your honey, it looks like you PCd for too long

Yeah that is a caramelized mess. Too rich as well. I like LC as much as the next guy but sugar LC sux in my opinion. Personally the only sugar LC I would even consider doing again is SITR but even that is weak compared to malt extract. I really like grain water LC tho care must be taken with proper sterilization. I plan to give potato LC a run here soon.
Honey and karo LC never performs well for me.

Wow nice clean growth you got going on there!
What recipe do you use for your cakes, the mix looks a bit lighter than what I've seen before. Did you add supplements? The mycelium is lovin it!

just your standard 2:1:1 verm water brf mix. the brf was semi-coarse brown rice i ground.
the lc was made from an agar wedge so i knew i was inoculating with clean stuff.

You only need a tiny amount of sugars, Workman recommends just 0.1-0.5%
Most use 10+ times that.
If useing honey I would suggest boiling it first and letting it settle in the fridge, then carefully pour off the top layer leaving any cloudy stuff at the bottom.

Awesome! I might try making a LC, I have fully colonized agar plates just sitting around. I'll transfer a wedge out and see how it goes. Just gotta make sure I have proper sterile techniques. I know LC's are easy to contaminate.
Do your jars have any GE holes on the lid?
I've heard from a few people that it isn't necessary with LC's

no. just 2 SHIPs. to relieve pressure after cooking and while drawing lc syringes i use a 3ml syringe stuffed tight with poly fill then pc'd to sterility. i use that a few dozen times and ill throw it back in the pc again.
its not really necessary but im sure it adds a bit of vigor. i think the polyfill syringe does good at allowing enough exchange for good growth but doesnt oeave it open for potential contam all the time.

That sounds like a real pain when you could just use a whatman filter. They are not expensive and last a long time.

You could also just use SFD's for gas exchange. Whatman's are pricey in my experience.

Whatman are waterproof and cost a couple bucks at most. A dozen should be enough for ten years.

OP is at about 6% sugar which is acceptable. I'd give it a whirl.
"whatmans are water proof" I don't understand this statement, whatmans are designed to filter water/liquid from a syringe. They are designed to have liquid pass through them.
