Monotub questions

I plan on starting a monotub soon and, I still have a couple questions I hope to get addressed before I get started. 1) I was planning on doing the Sandman No-Filter monotub tek and was curious about the success of it and if anyone has done it yet? Here's the tek https://mycotopia.net/topic/42113-sandmans-no-filter-monotub-tek/ 2) I was wondering how much it matters about how high the monotub is off the ground in other words is contam that much bigger of a problem 0ft off the ground vs say 5ft off the ground?

Those mono tubs have no FAE at all, except for the fan aimed at the tub which enters through the 1/8" holes!?
That tek is like 6 years old. Those are very outdated methods that will most likely end up in your tub stalling out and not pinning. I wouldn't try it, tbh.
Stick to what works! http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20356759/fpart/1/vc/1

Airflow, or FAE, during the fruiting phase, is perhaps the most important part of achieving a strong pin-set. Construct a proper monotub, and your success rates will soar!!

Okay tell me if I got this right I silicone square magnets (with a hole in them) around the tub. Then I make covers with magnets and either polyfill with a hole to match the magnet hole or a solid card stock magnet for colonization time.

Just make the holes (1-1/2" is good), about 4-5" from the bottom, two on both sides.
Then make two holes on top (same size). The magnetic squares are unnecessary IMO. Tape up your holes up during colonization.
Once the surface is fully colonized, stuff the bottom holes tightly with polyfill( you want to maintain the humid environment while still supplying FAE) and keep the top holes looser (you want the stale CO2 laden air to be able to escape).
Check out Frank's how to dial in a mono for the top holes http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17332777

That tek would work fine IF you could dial it in correctly which would require you "reading" your mycelium, which would require a good deal of experience doing so and getting it wrong quite a lot first.
Keep it simple to start off

That tek also doesn't specify how many holes he is using. A 1/8" hole is way to small for a proper mono tho. Save that for a SGFC or something, even then it should be 1/4" holes.
And your mono can be on the ground or elevated. Some people stack their monos up to the ceiling lol. It really makes no difference, as long as you have good airflow in the room. I use an air purifier and set it on low and pointed away from the tub. It helps keep stagnant air moving and filters out dust particles, which is always a plus.
