Identify these cactus cuttings for me?

I bought them as Peruvian Torch but the spine structure makes me wonder- the spines are very small and come out into the skin quite easily which is not a characteristic I've ever noticed in the Trich species. One cutting has 5 points, while the other has 6. The 5 pointed cutting has very shallow ridges, and is practically smooth around its circumference in some places.
Let me know what you guys think or if you need to see more pics. Thanks!

There are so many ribbed columnar cacti that any attempt to ID them wold be, as Lemnaminor says, Your best guess. Specially without flowers to help.

Looks like PC pachanoi to me. IME cuttings that small don't contain much mescaline. The top one in the last picture looks a little off though, the glaucus markings remind me of some other inactive columnar. Better lighted, in-focus pictures could remove all doubt.

More pics. I do suspect that the darker cutting is neither pachanoi nor peruvianis. The shape is just off. You can see the near-complete roundness of the lower part in the new photos. Why is everything always misidentified

Roundness just means it's extremely full of water, once you try to root them they will start to dry out and get skinnier. From those pics I'd say they're both probably PC pachanoi. Root them and grow them out, you'll be able to tell a lot better when the new growth comes in and you can see how the new spines look, most of the spines of those have been knocked off so that makes an ID harder.

they both look pachanoi to me. From a poorly grown plant. I had a lot of shitty cuttings, that have now become beautiful plants.

Yep, with a few years of TLC even the shittiest looking cutting can look fantastic.

You know the shame about these is they came from a botanist at my university. I thought being able to identify plants was one of the big parts of that field

You know, for some reason professionals often are completely ignorant about ethnobotanicals and either purposefully obfuscate their identities to dissuade people from using them, or just don't know any better.
