Growing in a 5 gallon bucket?

For a discreet fruiting chamber, say i mixed rye and colonized brf in a 5 gallon bucket and did think it would work? Would drill the big hole in the top for a light or some sort, and the mister would be on a timer. You guys are experience, I am not, I do not need the amount of product from a mono tub but want a bit more than brf cakes offer. Thanks!

build it like a mono and skip the automated bullshit. you won't have to mist it once until after the first flush

Ha, only reason I even included it is because I already have one lying around with no use, only thing I need would be the rye and the bucket.

Do not, for the love of the gods, mix colonized brf with rye in that bucket. Rye is used as spawn and must be sterile until colonized.
Now, if you take colonized brf cakes or colonized rye spawn and mix it with coco coir in that bucket, you'll be in the money

Was either going to do my best to sterilize or mix with 8 quarts of loose coir from top-grown , so i guess the loose coir method is my best bet? I just want to find a way to use this ultrasonic mister I'm guessing with the coir I will have no need?

I meant with purpose , I originally bought it to use in my current grow place but no longer need it and its past the return date, so now it's just sitting.

Would this work as pollyfill? http://www.walmart.com/ip/Morning-Glory-Cluster-Stuff-Polyester-Fiber-16-oz./19397509 And would 8 quarts of loose coir from out-grow work as my substrate? I've only done brf cakes so I'm fairly nooby.

That polyfill will work just fine.
Yes, loose coco coir will work. Getting bricks are usually cheaper tho. They usually come in a pack of 3.
Try to avoid the Eco earth brand (it might have sticks and rocks in it, best to avoid that). Instead, look for Exo terra " plantation soil" at your local pet store or on amazon. It is a much cleaner substrate to work with.
To prep your sub, dump it in your bucket, add 2 quarts verm, a handful of gypsum, and pour boiling water over it and cover it up! Can't be easier.

How did that polyfil work out for you? I was thinking of buying the same.

As long as it says 100% polyester fiberfill on it, it will be good to use!

Anything from 0 to 1-2 ounces per quart
Usually on a mono made with 5qts spawn Ill be happy to get 6-8 oz off first flush. A really good tub can get up to 10.

Im gonna post this here cause why not. I just pressure cooked my jars and shook them around, and this happened. A snall piece of polyfil fell into the wbs due to the fact the polyfil was "clustered." Is it ok the way it is?
