Galindoi mycelium puffballs?

I inoculated 4 pint jars of brown rice 4 days ago with a syringe of galindoi spores, and they started showing growth yesterday, but the initial growth seems a little bit strange to me. All the spots that have started are little wispy spherical puffballs, most of them with a black dot at the center which is pretty much impossible to get a good photo of, but here's my best attempt at a photo of one of the puffballs:

Normal galindoi growth?

Overcooked the rice by a couple minutes btw, it ended up pretty sticky, there's going to be no shaking of those jars, which is a little disappointing because I was hoping to use them as masters for a bunch of quarts. Lol
Oh well, from what I've read it's best to get an isolate that grows stones on agar anyway, and I inoculated three plates of agar at the same time too.

Here's a shot of another puffballs with a big black spot in the middle. I'm pretty sure this spot was where a big clump of spores came out of the needle, so it might make sense for the black spots in the middle to be collections of spores at the same spot?

What exactly are you doing with these?

Thought I was going to use them as masters but I got the rice too sticky so I'll probably just let them grow stones in the jar as is.
Just didn't expect to see the myc start growing as fuzzy puffballs, and it doesn't look like the growth I've seen in other galindoi threads, so I'm trying to get a double check.

I see. You were going to use this for bulk?

No, just to start up a bunch of quart jars and ignore them for a few months while they grow sclerotia. Probably do a small grow just so I can get prints.

That looks alright. Mexicana mycelium has that look.

Galindoi mycelium always grows out in all directions. The spherical appearance is normal.

Next time cook your brown rice for 10 minutes on medium heat after bringing water up to a boil stirring every couple of minutes. Turn off the heat and let it sit for another 5 minutes or so in the hot water. Then the grains should be hydrated enough but not get sticky.
You could also try this prep method, by insanemike, out. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21842819

Thats pretty close to the prep i was following, I did 10 minutes on medium (enough to maintain a slow boil),but then strained it and put it back in the pot with a lid (sans water) to steam for 15 minutes. It's pretty close I think, and might have been ok if I'd had some gypsum to add to it.
The galindoi seems to be loving it though, spreading *really* quickly.

Turned out my rice prep was ok after all btw. Gave shaking the jars a shot, it broke up just fine, and they're already recovering nicely.
I'd read that galindoi was an aggressive colonize but holy shit that stuff grows fast once it gets a foothold.

i never shake my galindoi jars they are pretty fast yea, keep it on slightly warmer temp, speeds up stone formation

Now that I know the rice isn't actually a big sticky clumpy mess, I'm back to wanting to use these as masters for a bunch of quart jars, so I'll probably shake a couple times to keep it broken up a little. But yeah, if I were planning to grow out these jars doesn't seem like there'd be much reason to shake given how fast it's going.

IME, galindoi can easily be broken up with a shake before the stones form. After the stones form, it is much harder to break up.

If you shake after the mycelium starts browning up and forming veins (the precursor to stones) you might not get any stones at all. Best to shake early or not at all.
