Habitat: Coastal south Carolina, compost pile growing on a live oak that was cut down, I cant even describe this thing its so alien.

Also check out the beautiful oysters, sorry I couldn't take more pics, there's so much rain lately I was being carried away by mosquitoes....
What do you guys think it is? Purely just curious as I learn about my local mushrooms, I don't see much coming from my area as far as mycology on the board so I'm trying to learn and contribute. Thanks.

Hericium erinaceus
It's a delicious edible. I slice and sautee them in butter and a little salt. Delicately flavored, so it would be easy to overpower them.

Cool bro thanks, ill update title of the thread now. Too bad I don't eat edible mushrooms, I read something though that these improve cognitive something...so that's really cool. My gf would probably eat it I might go harvest it.
Should I just cut the sickles or the whole thing if I do? And what about the oysters, they're edible also? Ik you cant really see them in the pic too well but if you got an idea that'd be great.

No need to cut off the spines. I would trim off the brown parts, though. The base area should be trimmed, too.
The bracket fungus in your other picture aren't oysters. I'm not sure what they are.

Cool brother, thanks a million. Hmmm, yeah I know very little in this field(mycology) and even less in the means of edibles, I mostly have studied actives.
Anyone know what the bracket fungus might be and of its edible and or medicinal.
