I wouldn't count on it. purpurea can be found all over the US though.

They come in the form of microscope slides. Do you think the spores within the slide are viable?
They are viable, and a great source for purpurea spores, though not contaminate free.

It is indigenous to Salem MA; I believe that is the origin of the Salem Witch Trials.
It grows a black fungus on the rye lant.

Actually it's dark purple.

Yeah I live in CT on the Massachusetts border, it effects many grass species here. You could find it among the ornamental grasses they use to define borders of shopping plazas and the like. The mid west is the place to go for larger quantities though.
