Lol wat? I'm sure there are many atheist soldiers. A very large portion of the population is atheist and they're normal people

The difference is, now kids have access to any information they could ever want - and so will make decisions based on what kids 60 years ago could've rarely even found out.. It has positives and it has negatives, but overall I believe them knowing more and basing their decisions off of that is far and away more positive than negative.

I don't know if 'get to 18 then pick a belief' is at all realistic, mine are still evolving and I'm a good bit past 18.

I would bet you any amount of money that if a soldier was looking down the barrel of a rifle, he'd either be mumbling "Please God, let me live." & not "Please satan, let me go to hell!"
...

Wouldn't the parallel be better if the first example were "Please God, let me die and go to Heaven"?

Even then, this requires a person to subscribe to the cosmology that contains the given concept of hell.
This may not be rewarding as a branch of examination for Satanism, which teaches that Hell is just an idea made up to scare people.

Yeah, you're right. It would make more sense to say, "Please God, let me go to Heaven!" rather than "let me live".
I believe that there's got to be a place for the good people & the bad people. I know this comparison has been beat to hell (pardon the pun), but do you think that Adolph Hitler & Mother Teresa ended-up with the same outcome after they croaked?
Maybe people are buying into the bullshit that we all do just take a dirtnap after dying. Look how many school shootings have occurred in the past several months. Out-of-control shit be happening! I think the end is nearer than we 1st thought!

When I die, I want my last words to be...

Tell your son to keep learning and thinking critically.

Ask anyone in the military if they're in a combat situation, do they pray "Please help me get thru this okay, satan!" Or is it, "Please help me to survive this, God!"?? There are no atheists / satan worshipers in foxholes...I guarantee that!

lol... it's a really funny statement, too bad there's no truth to it, that I and
many others can guarantee. just because some clergyman made that statement and
it's been repeated in christian circles since WWII, that doesnt make it factual

12 years old is way too young to be thinking about stuff like this. He needs a normal, fun-filled childhood & when he turns 18, then pick what you want to believe. I'll keep my beliefs as I have for 60+ years.

so it's wrong for parents to choke christianity down he throats of their little
children as well I suppose, or does this only include things other than
indoctrination into the approved faiths... or  are you saying it's too young for
a kid to be thinking about his religious beliefs, that his parents should make
all those decisions for him... I did allow him to choose to attend christian
churches, something he did for about 5 years... was that also too young an age to
make a choice like that?

dont you think that there's a time a child should make some of his own choices,
wouldnt a choice about his faith is good starting point since it's not like
deciding to use illicit substances or choosing to commit armed robbery and you
know, if he decides to sacrifice puppies and babies, all he has to do is repent
and ask jesus to forgive him and he goes to heaven

here's you an interesting article on it.

makes me wonder how many of the 'no rel pref' tags were attached to agnostics and
atheists, I know a few that were buddhist, at least they say they were
