I lived that shit. If anybody called alternative music GRUNGE we made fun of them. Grunge was a fashion statement being sold to the public to cash in on the Seattle look.

exactly. good call.

Alice in Chains and Nirvana apparently.
seeing as those are the only bands that ever get referenced to "Grunge music"!
GAH!

anti-establishment rock is a better name, but really it had no name but Rock, when it was kicking back in the day...then with Nirvana everyone started calling bands like them "grunge". it's sad. for everybody.

I'm not sure I would say "sub"-genre on the term "alternative"

Smashing Pumpkins were not grunge. They had some pretty good stuff though.
I'm not saying Nirvana because they were the most popular. In fact, once they got popular pretty much everybody started hating them. And yes Akira, I can try to be edgy and name a bunch of obscure grunge bands, but when it comes down to it, when I hear Nirvana on the radio to this day, I fucking love hearing them.

yeah so do i.
Incesticide is one of my favorite albums.
seriously. by them, Nevermind is a close second. i actually own In Utero.
dude, it's not that i don't like the hell out of Nirvana.
i never said that.
PS: they aren't obscure either...at least they weren't when the bands weren't called "Grunge". they aren't obscure to Kurt Cobain...nor others.
think about it. ...pfft, try and be edgy...by posting bands that were popular and good BEFORE Nirvana, and that's somehow edgy...isn't liking Nirvana and ONLY Nirvana more edgy?

I wouldn't either, I'd call it a description of a GENRE of music.

I go with AIC as well. Mad Season was awesome as well; best of the grunge supergroups.

Bump Nirvana has been my favorite band since I first discovered music, which was with them. So to me, them. I love every song and every album, even Nevermind haha. From a "real grunge"/lyrical stand-point, Alice in Chains, (but I do not like grunge besides Nirvana, the pixies and Melvins, who I consider more sludgey) Kurt himself even said that he only wrote lyrics that were supposed to sound good, not make sense. I love the sound, but more than half of Nirvana's songs are almost no more than that. Sound without meaning

I don't like pearl jam, and i don't like alice in chains. Both those bands just have this lame slow depression to them that I hate. At least nirvana had some creative music. Those other bands were cookie cutter. Bunch of bullshit.
Alice in chains was a cookie cutter band? Layne is rolling over in his grave right now. They were much more original than any of the other grunge bands including nirvana.

They only seem cookie cutter because so many bands afterwards copied them to a tee

They were Gods...
Now they're frogs.
--------------------
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
