PES Amazonian/Golden T Midwest Industry Bulk Grow problems
    #22355600 - 10/09/15 05:54 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

This is my very first grow! these are my beloved PES Amazonian Jars i was growing outside of my Midwest Grow kits mega chamber .
I was incubating the rest of my jars inside the chamber (Lions mane/Golden T)

Until I began noticing that the jars outside of the chamber (My room stays about -65F) were growing rapidly. All the jars being incubated had zero growth. (The Midwest provided thermometer said -78F)
It became very obvious the jars inside of the container were drying out due to high temperatures . Why did this happen ?
I turned off the heat pad and now some of the jars are growing again but i am concerned many of my Lions Mane and Golden Teacher may become contaminated because of this.

Because there's no GE.
You need to take tht foil off the lids, Leatus

Are you using a dry-verm barrier, or some type of filter?

Yes there is a dry verm layer.
I just assumed you wanted to leave the tin foil on top loosely for extra precaution.
I will try removing them and see if that helps. thanks!

The dry verm layer is all the protection you need!

Leaving the foil on will only create a microclimate underneath the jar lid and encourage bacterial growth. And you also want some GE from the 4 holes you should have on top of the lid.

going back to check the jars are making up for the lost time quickly .only two in total were lost to contams at the top of jar with the dry verm
(Presumably caused by what you just told me about the Foil covers)

I still have a large quantity of healthy looking Lions mane so they weren't too dried out.

thank you ! Ill remember this to make my next grow better .

Inadequate GE will not cause your jars to dry out..
It'll make them sweat

I believe the issue would have to have been in the thermometer considering it has memory functions and shows the highest temperature reached being only ~82F on the first day before i had it timed correctly for my room.

Have any thoughts is to where it could have been my own Error?

Lol I hope it has holes in it too. But, with these "grow kits", you never know.

I actually think that the community is sometimes too hard on grow kits. I have no problem with those blocks of mycelium you can buy from Holland though its surely illegal and risky to do so, and surely occasionally they do contaminate. 100% mycelium is a pretty safe bet!

Those Midwest grow kits though are just playing on peoples laziness and ignorance of the process. It's just overpriced junk you can buy yourself at any supermarket condensed together in one place just so the grower is able to avoid reading anything more involved than the pamphlet it comes with!

I am not mocking the OP as I was once very close to buying a Midwest grow kit myself! I think worrying about getting it through customs was one of the main things that stopped me. I also typed midwest into the shroomery SE, and watched RR's videos!

Not even slamming Midwest to be honest, I mean fair play to them they dont lie about anything they are selling, and it looks like tacky crap even in the photographs!

Business is business!

I completely agree with you I was in a spending mood that week but was also making my own jars at the same time. Initially opening the box i was slightly disappointed because there really wasn't anything in there i couldn't have bought from Walmart or Lowe's.

Yet, this was my first grow and i think it really helped me get a great start on knowing what i need to do next time on my own.
even though id never buy another grow kit again.

No its a high tech one of a kind flimsy tote with 4 holes near the top that may or may not have been purposely put there.

Something any DIY loony would be beyond jealous of.

Only 4 holes? You're gonna need a lot more than that if you plan to make a proper SGFC.
