Panaeolus cyanescens Q. on Dung
    #22353340 - 10/09/15 06:36 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hi,

after sucessfully growing cubensis with PF Tek i now plan to grow Pan´s and have some questions about some details. I would be happy to get some help with that!

1. does it matter if its cow or horse or mule dung?  ...as mule dung would be easyly available for me

2. i was reading about the 50/50 tek  http://www.shroomery.org/54/50-50-Casing-Tek?
they dont use dung at all, but peat moss.  Can i just collect the moss  in the forest and use it?

3. Why only pasteurize the dung and not sterilize?

4.would it be possible to grow the Pan´s with Pf tek with dung as addition to the substrate formular?  ...i mean with only colonizing the jars and than birthing it into the fruiting chamber?

thanks a lot in advance.

I read that you pasteurise to leave some "good" bacteria in your manure which will be beneficial to mycelium and to leave the badder bacteria with less of a foothold in the manure. If you sterilise it any type of bacteria will have an easier time colonising your substrate

Sorry I can't help you with the rest. I am new to this myself.

Also I don't think the type of dung makes a difference as they all eat the same stuff. This is what I think ill let someone more experienced give you advice on that

Do you guys know if he used MS to inject the cakes with, he doesn't specify in the tek.

Anyways i think it would be best to put the spores on agar first, do some transfers, then make a LI syringe to inject with.

I've heard people have had success using MS with this tek, guess they got lucky, syringes are never 100% clean and injecting into sterilized manure sounds like a trainwreck.

But I'd rather be safe than sorry. Don't wanna waste any of my precious pan spores.

He does use MS from prints, and it worked very well.

His wild print failed, and stated he needed to clean it up on agar first, I only read the first page.
