8 foot King Cobra found under a lady's dryer in her garage 1

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/8-foot-king-cobra-found-in-orlando-after-over-a-month-on-the-slither/ar-AAffOCi?li=AAa0dzB&ocid=mailsignout
Floridians who've been watching where they walk for more than a month can breathe a little easier: An 8-foot king cobra has been found just about 1,500 feet from where it escaped its Orlando home in late August.
King cobras are carnivorous animals that can grow up to 18 feet long. The venom in one cobra bite is enough to kill 20 people or an elephant, but they rarely attack humans. With proper licensing, they can be legally kept as pets in Florida.
The cobra, which belongs to reality TV personality Mike Kennedy, was reported missing on September 2, launching a widespread snake hunt. Kennedy had proper permits for owning the venomous snake but was issued a $366 citation for “failure to immediately report the escape of a non-indigenous venomous reptile.”
Kennedy returned from a two-day trip on September 1 and discovered that a tree branch had struck the roof of his garage, where the snake was held. The hole in the roof allowed water to seep in, damaging the snake’s habitat. The cobra is believed to have escaped through a gap between its cage and some netting.
Authorities searched for over two weeks before calling off the active cobra hunt on September 18. Though the foot patrol ended, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officials continued to monitor traps meant to bait the cobra.
But it wasn’t a trap that caught the 8-foot snake: It was a hissing sound. A woman who lives near Kennedy heard the hissing in her garage. The cobra had coiled up underneath her dryer. Before it could pop into her laundry basket, she called animal services and they retrieved the snake:
The cobra has been returned to Kennedy, and its new cage has been approved by officials who made sure he won’t make a slither for it again.

I'm actually pretty fond of snakes -- had a few of them as pets growing up, and used to go looking for them (as a kid).
But man, I couldn't imagine knowing that a freaking king cobra was just like a foot from me as I was washing my clothes. Yikes.

O man, I read about when that thing first got loose a couple weeks ago(unless it's some other jerkoff's pet king cobra) and was wondering what would come of it.
Yeah Florida's have giant invasive pythons, but king cobra's are a whole new league - glad no one ended up hurt. I would be grumpy as fuck if I worked in animal control and got that phone call.

I almost think the guy should be charged with something. Not just ticketed. Even if the escape was a complete accident...I mean that's a uber deadly ass fucking reptile. I really don't think anybody outside of zoos and shit should have cobras. Certainly not some "licensed" TV personality (who the fuck is that dude anyway?).

If I recall, licensing to own dangerous reptiles is actually pretty legit, like you have to have a significant amount of hours logged handling dangerous/venomous animals and have it signed off by some other licensed sponsers or something.
I'm not sure though, I could never keep anything that required food I might potentially befriend. I do agree that dude should be fined out the ass though, it's unfortunate and it was accidental, but there still needs to be some accountability.

One of the rats I got to feed my snake was a quick, smart little fucker. She managed to survive in the cage for over 12 hours. When she wasn't at the bottom just flat out dodging the snake, she was climbing up the side on the bars and chilling up there. I decided to spare her because my wife thought she was cute and I felt she deserved it (most don't last a minute). She got to live out the rest of her life happily in a cage of her own (when it wasn't being held) Also got her a companion so she wouldn't be lonely.
Here's the lucky food, and said snake:

I didn't like it much at first either, but I've had snakes off and on for about 20 years. Just kinda got used to the idea. I do feed them live, but it's really only because I've always had difficulty getting them to eat pre killed ones. My second snake was probably pretty close to dying from starvation by the time I finally just gave it a live mouse. All of my snakes thus far have refused to eat anything already dead.

My Ball went 9 months without eating once. Poor guy.
Turns out, I didn't have proper lighting, and the day I got all that back up and running he ate.
Mine also didn't like pre killed mice/rats. (at least, the frozen ones)
I figured out that if it was fresh killed and I dangled it and moved it, it'd eat it, so I'd put the poor mouse in a bag and slam it on the counter a few times to dispatch it very very quickly... Quicker than any other death it'd get, including from the snake. It was brutal, and I didn't like to do it, but it was humane, so it made me feel a little better.

Even fresh killed ones mine wouldn't mess with =/ I've basically killed a lot of mice for no reason. Sucks for the mouse, but at least if the snake is the one doing the killing, it's not just a pointless death. If the snake doesn't feel like eating, it just ignores the mouse. I've never had a snake kill a mouse and then not eat it.

She was a pretty unique little rat. She was inordinately affectionate and absurdly intelligent. She didn't live on the ground of the cage because the snake wasn't pursuing her, she watched it and when it would strike at her, she'd jump out of the way and run behind it. She spent as much time up on the bars as she did on the bottom level of the cage. She wasn't constantly pursued, but there were quite a few attempts made against her that she successfully avoided. She liked to just chill in your lap and stuff, and would literally give you little rat kisses. Both me and my wife became pretty attached to her. Seen lots of mice/rats in my day, she was pretty unique.
Unfortunately rats and mice just don't live very long

I got my snake when he was just a baby, eating little pinkies. Those I fed him from prekilled or frozen/thaw. But as he moved up to fuzzies and hoppers I started feeding him live. I just feel like it's more natural for a snake to hunt and kill their prey and it never really bothered me.

Hubby put a pic of the wrong rat LOL. The one with black markings was the "companion rat" and she was a total bitch. Named her Jill. She'd try to bite/attack every time I tried to pet her or anything.
Here's a pic of the sweet rat who avoided the snake:
Her name was Claire. Had her for about two years. Came home one day and she was completely fine. Hadn't been acting sick or anything. I went to pet her and tell her goodnight and found her dead in her cage. On my birthday. I had to make hubby take her out of the cage for me cause the evil rat kept trying to bite me. I put her in an old comcast router box, wrapped in a cloth. Hubby went outside in the dead of night, during the worst heatwave to dig in our hard dry assed yard to bury her for me. 2009-2011 RIP Claire

oh and the evil rat ended up dying in a weird way. after claire passed away, i told hubby to just let the snake have jill, cuz she was mean anyhow. it was time for the snake to have food anyways. he puts her in the snakes cage, and the snake ate her.
but that's not the end of it. LOL.
i hear a lot of gloopy, horking sounds. then i smell something that smells like 1000 rotting corpses in the sun. i grab a flashlight (we had been asleep and hubby was still sleeping at this point) and shine it in the snakes cage after i heard movement.
apparently the snake had horked back up the evil rat. partially digested and what not. hubby gets up, turns on the light, and grabs a paper towel to retrieve the dead rat. as he goes to pick it up to dispose of it....the FUCKING HEAD fell off, and oooooooooooooooooomfg the smell got 1000x worse. he started gagging and retching, and i ran out of the room giggling like a dumbass. if i hear/see/smell puke i'mma lose it, but that shit was funny. at least to me

Kind Cobra's aren't so dangerous cause they're not at all aggressive. I used to keep a copperhead, had to give it and my python away when I got pretty sick this past summer.
For me, keeping hots is more fun than regular snakes.

Had never seen a snake puke it's food back up before. Had already been digesting for a few days.

I'm just glad the snake wasn't harmed. There are WAY TOO MANY stories that end up with some fuckface killing an animal that scared them. Me though, I would've kept the snake for a ransom.

Roger that. They're not for everyone.
My 1st little python helped a lot of people I know get over their fear of snakes. They'd come visit and gradually get more comfortable with her and then would finally hold it. Then would actually request to hold it during their next visits.

I fed my daughters ball python a few months ago and after the snake killed the rat it was trying to eat it sideways. She got frustrated and slithered away. I went to pick it up to dangle it and give her another chance to attack it the right way.
She saw me going to pick up the food and tagged my hand. Learned my lesson that day

You don't want to go near most snake when it's feeding, and for some time after.

I'd be all over that call if I was working critter control.. I can only imagine the things those guys run across over the course of a few years of work there in Florida..
That said, if it were my dryer I would be pretty pissed. What if I had a kid or something? It's one thing to sign up and voluntarily take the risk, it's another to be placed in that situation without your prior consent.. that could have gotten pretty bad.

Yeah I definitely think there should have been criminal charges in this case. His failure to keep it contained put lives at risk.

I'm not sure though, I could never keep anything that required food I might potentially befriend. I do agree that dude should be fined out the ass though, it's unfortunate and it was accidental, but there still needs to be some accountability.
I think most of these people who keep dangerous animals are a little "off." No offense to pillar.

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Sheriff’s deputies shot nearly 50 wild animals — including 18 rare Bengal tigers and 17 lions — in a big-game hunt across the state’s countryside Wednesday after the owner of an exotic-animal park threw their cages open and committed suicide in what may have been one last act of spite against his neighbors and police. As homeowners nervously hid indoors, officers armed with high-powered rifles and shoot-to-kill orders fanned out through fields and woods to hunt down 56 animals that had been turned loose from the Muskingum County Animal Farm by owner Terry Thompson before he shot himself to death Tuesday.
