Kinda hard to really gauge them. Almost anything can be funny if it's presented right and the exaggerations are right. You definitely need to find some ways to elaborate more on them. One liners generally aren't that great. The real reason the comedy greats, are great, is because they tell stories. Just listening to some guy stand up there saying a bunch of one liners gets kinda old. It can be done, but you've got to have fucking amazing jokes to do it.
Comedy is an art. You can't take a square inch of a Picasso and declare it a great piece of art. You have to see the whole picture to appreciate it and judge it appropriately.
I think you have a good bedrock to build on, but you've really gotta start building. You need to learn to weave all this stuff together. Comedy isn't just about making people laugh, it's about keeping them entertained and interested, which is why one liner comics usually fail.

Yeah I definitely realized that's a flaw of mine, I usually find a decent/good joke but I usually just leave them and write down a different one, I definitely need to elaborate on basically the majority of the ones I wrote.
In my notebook I have some that are legit stories and a few I can definitely keep going with, Idk why I always feel like I second guess everything too, like I find it really funny at first, but after mulling it over I just start picking it apart and hate it and either discard it or just leave it like it is which is another major flaw I have.
The jokes themselves would probably be the easiest part for me, the tieing them together and making a story I feel will take a lot of time but I'm willing to put the time in and at least try.

I'm sure all the greats do the same thing. I'd wager they probably trash the majority of their attempts because they just don't flow naturally or come out how they want it. People in comedy don't just sit down and write a few lines and call it done. They devote a lot of time working on their material.

I forget his username here but Jonathan Marin is a pretty frequent poster here and he's fairly well known in the NYC comedy club circuit. Whatever that is.
If you search for something along the lines of a thread named "How's my standup" you'll run into it and find his username. Or just check out his youtube videos.
His jokes are based mostly around drugs, specifically psychedelics which I find very entertaining, but repetitive.

Standup comedy has to be the most nerve-wracking sort of performance I can think of honestly. It takes a lot of balls to get up there.
People irl tell me that I'm funny, and one of my old roommates actually told me that he thought I'd do good at a one of the amateur standup shows around the city a while back, but there's no way in hell that I'd escape something like that without feeling mildly traumatized or vomiting all over myself or something, I used to be able to do acting and dance performances infront of audiences as a kid and teenager, but I've got the worst stage fright as an adult and grew to hate it.
I can see it quickly deteriorating into a Sweet Dee situation.

Man, If I did standup comedy. Most of my act would be either making fun of myself or making puns, and then talking about how I do that alot.
Quote:
So I make puns alot, and I love them. I mean I'll think of a pun in my head and I'll just start laughing. Some people really don't find puns funny. Which I just don't get. One day I was talking to my girlfriend, and I started making vegetable puns. I was like "Lettttuce go already, if you don't hurry up we're not gonna have a date".
So when she looked at me like why are you threatening to cancel, I pulled out a date and was like they're really good. She gave me that look, of how unfunny she thought I was. But man, I could barely tell because I was laughing too hard
That's my shot at standup comedy. From an outside view, you just gotta not give a shit. And keep prying for those laughs. Louis C.K. is a pretty funny comedian. Have you seen his TV show? They're pretty much what standup comedy seems to be.

I feel like I'd have to have a few drinks before I got on the first time, not enough to get drunk or even close to drunk, but just enough to take the nerve off. I always think about doing that when I give it a try but I know that's a stupid and probably bad habit to get into lol.
I feel like the thought of bombing is worse than actually bombing, even though it's basically almost like getting into an awkward situation with a stranger you'll never see again type of deal, especially starting out because you don't have a name in the industry and you're not well known at all.
Definitely the biggest thing holding me back is the thought of it or freezing up
@Kroniko, thanks dude I'm definitely gonna check him out, hopefully he can at least give me some tips on starting out because I feel like I'm overthinking it big time.
