An intersting factoid is that during the first manned mission to the moon the technology that was used was no better than the present day gameboy. Makes you think ehhh

I'm starting to think the whole "mission to the moon" etc. is really a backdoor to weaponizing space (Star Wars).

Yeah, they're going to send nukes here all the way from Mars.

The PNAC reccomended that a U.S. Space Marines Corp be formed to assure the domination of space by the world's only superpower

And hey...everything else they reccomended has come to pass in one form or another, so this doesn't surprise me one bit.

800 million is a pittance.

I'll start paying attention when they put even 1/4 as much money into NASA as they do the military.

Bush is embarassing himself with this flagrant attempt to appeal to the younger and more scientifically minded voters.

The first Bush supposedly wanted moon bases and a Mars expedition too, but I think that idea went the same way as "no new taxes".

Gee, and I thought the only angle anyone would comment on is the typical 'government-theft-by-taxation-privatize-NASA' rant...

Trendal's gotta be bang on here...It's all about expanding US hedgemony. US bases on the Moon...Mars...could (maybe) prove profitable like the Alaska purchase...if you got the means, might as well do a risky investment....no?

Maybe they're going to cover the moon with solar cells and beam energy down to us from space.

This is obviously a contrived attempt to have a "JFK moment" during an election year in which a very questionable war is being waged by the president.

Sure, it might be interesting, but what good does it do? I mean, I watch the Discovery Channel and find all this stuff fascinating, but where does it get us? Why do we waste massive amounts of money on exploring space when we've still got so many problems here on earth? Couldn't that money be better spent on ending world hunger or preserving the rainforests? You know, stuff that might actually make life better here on this planet? Plus, we're doing this right after two costly wars in the Middle East. Wouldn't it be a good idea to actually--oh, I don't know--CUT spending when we're this far in debt?

Umm, doesnt the term "Star Wars" ala Reagan administration ring a bell for you? Billions of dollars have already been poured into the objective of weaponizing space. Look into it - I'm not making this up.

I doubt he'll win, he's lied, fucked the country out of 87 billion dollars, was involved with Enron, the list goes on.

You're assuming that the American public is intelligent and will make the right choice. The evidence points to the contrary.
