Cubensis TKSSS and Mazapatek - New Post = New Pictures = New Questions 1

Hey guys, Actually i decided that i want to share some pictures - i need your professional opinion about the setup. Here are some Hardfacts: - ~21-22°C // approx. 69,8°F - three holes in the box for fresh air (you see them in the picture - In the morning and at evening i take off the lid and let fresh air circulate. - On the left side there is the Motueka strain, right side there is the tksss. - On the ground there is sterilized water which is heated up by the aquarium-heater. The Casings are localized top of water. - Cased at 27.9 - 3 day inculate at 27°C, then drop into the box.
What you think about the condensation on the casing? Is there too much humidity in the box? Or i just need to have patience?

Looks about right to me. I take it you aren't misting at all?
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

right if misting means that i spray water in the box - i dont do that at all, all the water inside evaporates at the bottom (aquariumheater..).

Is your house extremely cold? That aquarium heater may be unnecessary and counterproductive I would rather fruit in the high 60s than the high 70s plus fluctuations in temp are a good thing

At the moment its cold here. About 65,84 F. I think in the night its get also a bit colder. We dont use the heater actually because i like to sleep cold and at the day im at work. I think there is a bit temperature drop down if it is colder at night and the warm water in the box cant heat directly. You think it sucks? I think the highest temperature is 71,6F, maybe at night a bit lower..

That temp range should be fine. I'm really not familiar with how well this type of FC operates.
The water should be humidifying to some degree, but there may be a lack of evaporation and thus a lack of extremely high surface humidity.

Hey Guys, Actually im happy with my casing. On the left side the tksss is transforming well, while on the right side there is nothing new at the M-Casing. Maybe it need just more time, lets wait for it. Here are some pictures for you

Hey Guys, =Update= - the casing was very well - and the first flush is done. I make some prints - but here is the first question: Is the print is okay if the the head was 2 days on the aluminium foil?

Second question: Why the shrooms grow at the side of the casing? Is the toplayer to high oder is it all about the shrink of the cake? Is it normal?

At the second experiment we try a cocohum(brick) + Vermiculite (around ~10%) toplayer - all sterilized in the pressure cooker. One of the casings have some sort of mold.. i kick it out.. the other casings looks clean so far.
And here is a clean one:

1) Print looks good, might want to let that dry out a little before sealing up the foil
2) Heavy growth on the edges of your tray might mean that the climate the tray is in is not ideal, probably low humidity. The substrate shrinks back from the wall of the tray a little creating a nice micro climate for pinning.

I would say the side-pinning could be just genetics.
Cause i look back on your original posts, and you have two different looking trays. The one on the left is good and consistent.
The one on the right is spotty with mycelium. Did you use spores? Or did you isolate with agar?
If with spores, it could likely just be different genetics coming out on the right side tray and growing differently.

Hey thanks for your answers. i check out some of my pictures again and wow - this picture upload is horrible, some pictures dont work with fullscreen and a shit of adds inside.. Nxt time i use the shroomery-upload, im sorry.
Yea true, i use sporestrings which i create myself - maybe its genetic but the left casing also pin on the sides after the cake was shrinking and there was ligth and space. Maybe this is a bit normal?

for your next trays try lining them with a trash bag or plastic shopping bag before adding your substrate, it will shrink with your sub and potentially help cutdown on side pinning.

Oh, the left side too?
Yeah, its a moisture issue then.
I would give those casings more water and mist the FC.
After each flush, you gotta replenish all the lost water.

Yea you can see the side pins at the second picture in the new picture blog. I dont mist my box at all, since i have pure water on the FC and still again a aquarium heater - i think that gives good humidity.
After my first flush i scrap all aborts and side pins away, let the cake refill with water, pour rest of boxwater away and give a good new toplayer.

Guys i have two more questions
1.) - if my brick shrink too much, is that also a lack of humidity or is that also the amount of substrat they have in the brick?
2.) If i mist my Box, i just indirect mist or can i spray also on the top layer of the casing?
3.) After my first flush my casing gets a new toplayer ... around 2cm high. How long will that need to regrow the layer? its 100% vermiculite and around 20.7°C

No, your substrate will shrink more and more as it is consumed.
Mist the substrate directly
Don't add another casing layer post flush.

just to be clear that i understand you, i can mist my subtrate why there are already fruits/funghis?
I work after flush as described in this thread: https://www.zauberpilzforum.com/~zpfimexi/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=528 its the german forum, but i think the pictures will help to understand.

You sure can... and if you case again after a flush you are going to give all the bacteria and mold spores that have landed on your sub an unbelievably good environment to grow in.

so what is your best advice for preperation for the new flush?
Btw. One more question: I see at some peoples thread that they dont harvest the full casing, they just pick of the big ones and wait for the smaller to grow to full state. is that possible or that sucks since the casing have not enough water? should i harvest the full case and then initiate the next flush after refill the water in the cake? Here is the reference-picture

Thanks for your helpfull tipps

Hey guys. Yea i harvest the first flush now cant even wait and dont want the spores in the full box... Look like i forgot the alufoil at the bottom of the casing, so alot of shrooms grow under the box! Good for me, more to harvest - but i fix it for the next flush. here are some pictures:

Water for the casing and wrap it in foil for night, in the morning or evening it get a small new toplayer
Also i go for an experiment - i take a new garbage bag and work in it - take the beautiful shroom and cut a piece out of the body inner, then i drop it on a agar (produced for my brew-yeasts a while ago) - hope that was steril enough, lets wait if i can clone this genetic

Here is my first Flush of the cocohum (brick) casings. The Pinset is very nice, but the pins are thin as well - think its about the amount of pins and about the amount of substrat - there is just ~350-400ml grain in each casing. Lets see how they will grow until they are full developed.

Here are all 3 new cocohum casings with the first flush. i dont want to take prints, is that a good timing to harvest them all? Actually i think i harvest and then i rehydrate the substrat for 24h, after that i create a new thin top layer but with vermiculite, i think thats better to stay konti - free... i dont want to reuse cocohum since this casing isnt realy steril. What do you think, how would you go for the second flush?

Soak it for like 4 hours, then put it back in the Fruiting chamber...I would advise against putting another casing laying on top after a flush...your sub is anything but sterile, and it hasn't been since the second you spawned it...
