And what's up with people saying people in the military are "murderers"..? Stupid ****ing liberals and dumb hippies.
EDIT: GOD DAMN TYPOS!
Basically exactly why I'm joining lol.
Plus I want the experience just in case some shit goes down in the future. Plus I have a fetish for the warrior culture.
Most of the people i know who joined the military are doing really good for themselves. Lot of cool stories and life experience. I wisg i would have joined i needed the discipline.

Like I said before... everyone in this discussion seems to be aware that EVERYONE is responsible.
I have no preconceived notions if my whole life I've been surrounded by military. I've just never personally joined.
I'm not joining for purely selfish reasons; I also want to be there to help those who have already joined, and I want to be there to help prevent innocent civilians from being killed.
That said it is not clear that everyone in this discussion is aware of their responsibility; there are quite a few posters that have directly said that they don't believe they are at all responsible for the actions of the nation. You've been actively posting you should have seen that.
Dude you basically told someone they're a cop out. If all you wanted was people to agree with your viewpoint, make a poll and see if they do.
And I have my eyes wide open. I've been here a while and have read most of the things these posters have said. That being said, I know they are good people who want to make a positive life for themselves and probably others. So I guess I'm a little biased because they're pretty stand up guys to me, even if they do joke around a bunch or get heated about some topics. Some people don't want to take the responsibility of others mistakes. You shouldn't force that on someone. There's awareness of the situation, but you shouldn't expect people to carry the burden of blame for something they didn't do.
I was actually being slightly sarcastic with retracting my statement. I know alot of people join because of money but also they think they can help with multiple situations. I can see that you want to as well. No one is in this thread is shaming the military, so that should be all good. A poster is shaming civilians, which most of us are. That's not nice to tell us we're not doing anything or taking responsibility for what we can, which is our own personal lives.
Seriously, its like he can't even read his own posts. Then he's all like bro why are you so mad?
Get the fuck outta here

We have compulsory military duty here. Almost all men have to go to the army for at last a year.
I was Black Beret (armored vehicles). I had a college degree when I joined, so me along with the doctor where the only 2 non-officers with a university education at the whole base. It may sound that this would be beneficial, but it wasn't. It meant that even though I was just a private I had to run the whole command center because all the staff were too incompetent to even send a properly written e-mail. Endless working hours for zero pay and very little sleep. I wish I had hidden that I had a degree, all the other guys spent most of their time cleaning tanks and playing football (soccer) while I had a mountain of responsibilities.
I did one month combat training, which was the only good thing that happened during my service. Since I'm a Judoka/Wrestler all the physical training was a walk in the park. Hell, even the fact that I had a normal sleeping pattern and no responsibilities was enough to make me happy.
Overall, I'd rank it one step below prison service. I'd never do it again even if the paid me.
I don't think I have a single good memory except for the one month of combat training, simply because I enjoy physical exercise and I could be a badass while all the other guys were puking or fainting from their lack of training.

When and how exactly did I insult civilians?
Quote:
All the average citizen does it bitch and moan. And then when the troops return they shift the blame onto them instead of the realizing they are just as guilty as the troops and the elite.

the majority of them are sheep who blame their leaders for everything that is wrong with their nation.
Quote:
If you have a problem with the way this country is operating stop bitching and do something about it. But my guess is you'll never evolve beyond blaming everyone else but yourself and refusing to take responsibility for your inaction.
You're gonna be perfect for the military. It makes it easier to follow their orders when you don't even posses basic reading comprehension skills or critical thinking

Since I knew that I couldn't avoid the service I wanted to go to the Special forces' parachutists division. However, when they told me I had to do a double service (almost 2 years) I preferred to just go to where they appointed me. I did some of the basic parachutist's training (went as far as jumping from towers on a bungee cord) but that was just coincidental, I just did my combat training with a special combined armored vehicles/parachutist's division which meant that whoever wanted could do these jumps.
The military exercises were fun, like running through fields/forests/rivers while being covered by a tank or a machine gun on a Jeep, then another vehicle would wait to provide cover after you passed the obstacle in order to pass the next one. Much better than FPS games (which I don't like). The platoon that was hosting us had proper gear like RPGs, sniper riffles and Kalashnikovs so we felt like little John Rambos, even though we had shitty European gear that kept on jamming.
Other than that, it was shit.

Haha it's still neat to me. Never from a plane though? Do you now on your own time? I like hearing about other countries military things. We get some different military guys from other countries sometimes to the base where I work. They always mention how much more our marines get to do during training. Spoiled brats. Haha Did you ever think about staying in longer to see if you could get transferred more in a combat situation?
You just made me read all up on it as well. I hardly ever research any of the combat stuff because I have listened to so many of the stories by soldiers. They get so excited telling a girl what they do haha I still can't believe they even thought FPS games were credited learning. Maybe in the beginning I guess...
When do they usually have you join? Like right after high school if you don't go to college? I don't really understand how that works. I had a Swedish friend who told me but it's been a long time and he didn't really get to explain it that much, plus it's probably slightly different. He ended up flying jets and planes and stuff. Took the most beautiful pictures of his time traveling too.

Look, man...I'm not anti-military. My Dad was a Drill Sergeant and I've got a lot of friends who are now Veterans. There's a good reason we have military, and I respect those who join to protect this great fucking country.
My Dad told me that there was two things he wouldn't let the new recruits have: whiskey and guns. His reasoning was that they'd get drunk and kill someone with inexperience or bottled up rage that becomes uncorked after drinking.

Because you and a few others have decided to attack me personally and no one else is backing me up. Because you're a fucking asshole whose taking his withdrawal out on me. Because a bunch of you are flaming me over saying we are all responsible for what our nation does.
And because I'm a fucking angry and depressed person. I'm not going to put the blame on you; but you definitely helped to spark the gunpowder.
So fuck you Malcolm. And fuck everyone else in this thread.
I'm going to go kill myself now. I hope you're happy. Sorry I said I was going to kill myself. I don't have immediate plans for that so it wasn't cool for me to say.
Dude chill out. Seriously. I feel like I need to put you both in a f'ing corner.
You dished it out as well and I felt like I had to defend myself multiple times with stuff. I'm good though. You seem to just be really emotionally invested in your viewpoint.
You cannot demand we all see your way. That's what I felt you did.
I am not anti-military. So don't think I am or I'm purposefully trolling you. You want to join, do it. You've been through alot, I can see that, and you'll be good if you maintain that discipline. There's good guys in the marines, and bad ones. It's not a huge thing though, like you're not going to become a samurai or whatever. But there's plenty of discussions that I've had to listen to about general war discipline and guns and what have you. Just don't expect to save the world ok? It's not like V for Vendetta. Don't be that guy whose all gung ho and whatnot, they usually get laughed at.
Like Akira I think said, it's a job being a soldier, and you can make a career out of it. It has benefits and can be beneficial for people who aren't stupid. But it's not the best paying one either for what is expected of you. And going into the marines, there's plenty of spending cuts going on lately. But I know plenty of marines who are incredibly happy where they are.

Sounds like you've heard this before Trek.
I was active duty Combat Engineer during OIF 1. While the majority of you were wetting diapers and doing homework, I was clearing roads of IEDs by hand. I thought I was doing good work until I got home and realized my countrymen could give a fuck less. American Idol and reality TV was more important than the War where the real heroes were dying.
My town waved the flag proclaiming we support our troops, til I get home and see they misspelled my name on the hometown hero memorial. Made me wish I was dead.
Long story short, I and my brothers are disappointed in the rest of you.
You are all pussy crybaby wieners.
When the next war pops off we will sit on the sidelines sipping lemonade while your pathetic generation gets drafted into the meat grinder of armed conflict.
Americans, and I use the term loosely, I hate you.
So essentially, you are butthurt because when you got back you weren't praised like a god.
What American interests were you protecting exactly on the other side of the planet? Oil or opium fields?
It's the average American's fault that the elite are sending people to the meat grinder to protect corporate interests and fight in a war that has nothing to do with our country's health as a nation? Tell me more.
You hate the people you are sworn to protect. Interesting.

The large majority of Americans think sending US troops 5000 miles into a foreign land serves very little purpose, and they certainly don't think the troops are "fighting to keep our freedoms" propaganda.
Iraq and Afghanistan missions were foreign policy failures, that's a leadership issue, not a civilian problem.

I got a good idea... How about we all get along and hit the bong like Cheech and Chong. Y'all press pause on Donkey Kong and everybody just come sing a long... My name is Big Feely and I'm about to pop a wheelie. Never done time, all I do is fight crime. I like to rock, I like to rap but no I don't live up in the trap. I stay fresh all day, all I ever do is play-on this beautiful summer day. Remember that we are all friends, so let's all just try to make amends. My time here is done so everybody remember to have fun.
