yeah, people put in a bad place will do bad things. that's sad.
"warrior-culture" is not all it's cracked up to be.
i respect the boots on the ground, i respect strategy...it saves lives. i don't respect warror-culture. i just don't. it's a sham in any civilized society, regardless of how "we got here". people who just want to fight cannot be trusted, in my opinion.

i've never supported any government in any way ever in my entire life.
so i think i've done all that's in my power to stop the elite, save from trying to do something crazy like actually stop them. what you're talking about is crazy.
civilians have equal parts responsibility as the military? how? the military are the people fighting the right/wrong people...civilian's are just born and they die. nothing in-between that's necessary.
they are not equal. they cannot be given the hindsight to act because they are NOT INVOLVED. period.

and yet it was always about killing and fighting. DO YOU understand what a WARRIOR-culture is?
it has WAR right in the title. and we all know war is only about taking what you want when you want it.
if it was what you'd say, then you wouldn't be going "awww shucks" to the many atrocities within the army's warriors. if it was really about self-discipline, you'd be shocked to know that the only discipline involved is physical...not mental...not ethical...cause it never is.

Sounds like you've heard this before Trek.
I was active duty Combat Engineer during OIF 1. While the majority of you were wetting diapers and doing homework, I was clearing roads of IEDs by hand. I thought I was doing good work until I got home and realized my countrymen could give a fuck less. American Idol and reality TV was more important than the War where the real heroes were dying.
My town waved the flag proclaiming we support our troops, til I get home and see they misspelled my name on the hometown hero memorial. Made me wish I was dead.
Long story short, I and my brothers are disappointed in the rest of you.
You are all pussy crybaby wieners.
When the next war pops off we will sit on the sidelines sipping lemonade while your pathetic generation gets drafted into the meat grinder of armed conflict.
Americans, and I use the term loosely, I hate you.
So essentially, you are butthurt because when you got back you weren't praised like a god.
What American interests were you protecting exactly on the other side of the planet? Oil or opium fields?
It's the average American's fault that the elite are sending people to the meat grinder to protect corporate interests and fight in a war that has nothing to do with our country's health as a nation? Tell me more.
You hate the people you are sworn to protect. Interesting.

What's with the military people that hate their own country? LOL
I have respect for a lot of soldiers. I know quite a few people in the military. I don't have respect for certain attitudes.

not anti-military. anti-stupidity.
big difference. soldiers want a parade...stay in the military. they want to come home, people will gladly accept that, as long you don't expect anything to be different at home. people will still see you as they see you, either someone regular who went to war, or some self-aggrandizing shit that can't reconcile what they've done for "their country".
there is no windfall of greatness, not for the masses. to think anything different is childish. no soldier ever came home and got a parade for anything good they did. sorry.
you don't see a soldier get praised for saving civilian lives, and minimizing causalities.

I don't hate or love the military, I support people on an individual basis, and a lot of troops are respectable while others aren't.
Shroomism typed EXACTLY what I wanted to say to myc but I figured I'd get slammed for saying it so I didn't. He seemed to only join because he wanted recognition or to be labelled a hero instead of joining because he thought what he was doing was right.

PS: being a soldier is just...a job
you get the perks of receiving compensation for your work. that's it.
nothing great about it. don't go overseas if you don't want to waste your life thinking you're fighting for freedom, and expecting people to applaud you killing other people in another part of the world LIKE THEMSELVES.

Every friend I had that joined the military ( mostly marines) they all hated it and left after four yearsd also in the marines they do not have many jobs at all that you can cross train into and use outside of the military. Most jobs really don't care about weapon experience. Join the airforce or navy. They only accept inteligent people.

If those mean ol drill sergeants get in his face yelling he will just put them on aan ignore list as well. Lmao. Right... if you can't even handle people bashing you. Then I don't have high hopes for you. You sound like you are still in highschool. Only people I knew pumped to join the military were teenagers.

Every single one of my friends that enlisted in the armed services ended up getting shipped to the Middle East. Just a few months before their gig would have been up, 9/11 happened. Not one of them came back the same, and that's a tragedy because they're in their early 30's.
I've got a lot of respect for my friends that came back from the war, but the war seems to rage on inside them still.

Like I said before... everyone in this discussion seems to be aware that EVERYONE is responsible.
I have no preconceived notions if my whole life I've been surrounded by military. I've just never personally joined.
I'm not joining for purely selfish reasons; I also want to be there to help those who have already joined, and I want to be there to help prevent innocent civilians from being killed.
That said it is not clear that everyone in this discussion is aware of their responsibility; there are quite a few posters that have directly said that they don't believe they are at all responsible for the actions of the nation. You've been actively posting you should have seen that.
Dude you basically told someone they're a cop out. If all you wanted was people to agree with your viewpoint, make a poll and see if they do.
And I have my eyes wide open. I've been here a while and have read most of the things these posters have said. That being said, I know they are good people who want to make a positive life for themselves and probably others. So I guess I'm a little biased because they're pretty stand up guys to me, even if they do joke around a bunch or get heated about some topics. Some people don't want to take the responsibility of others mistakes. You shouldn't force that on someone. There's awareness of the situation, but you shouldn't expect people to carry the burden of blame for something they didn't do.
I was actually being slightly sarcastic with retracting my statement. I know alot of people join because of money but also they think they can help with multiple situations. I can see that you want to as well. No one is in this thread is shaming the military, so that should be all good. A poster is shaming civilians, which most of us are. That's not nice to tell us we're not doing anything or taking responsibility for what we can, which is our own personal lives.
