Is this good for alcohol lamp?

It is in fact denatured ethyl alcohol as u can see on the label but I have to tip my lamp upside down and let it flow out for it to light and even then its not a big flame. Takes too long to get tools red hot I end up tipping it before every flame

Thats kinda easier said than done where I live. 2 out of 3 of the shops I went to kept trying to sell me lamp oil. One of them told me there is nothing made of alcohol for lamps. Finally the 3rd one had it after I explained really reallly slowly what type of fuel i need and it definitely cant have citronella in it.
I might try to find a transperant version to see if its any better. I guess the correct question is, will this coloured crap harm my crystal ball? Or is it ok to use till I find something more explosive

I've been wanting a alcohol lamp for my mycology work for a while now too. But I'm in the same boat as you. I just bought a mini torch I bought from ace. it was ten bucks.

I swear to god my country is a little bit on the hopeless side.
Last week I read that we don't have even 1 mycology lab anywhere. Not even the university or something

Well that's mostly because of our times.. There actually isn't a lot known of mycology, To the best of my knowledge its only been researched for the past ten years. Look at how much info from 5 years ago (wen they thought it was the best) is now considered outdated or bad info.

Most of the stuff I have to buy from overseas cuz we dont get a lot of basic stuff tbh. Like rye grains. They dont exist.

There are many research papers from university that go back 50+ years for mycology. Unfortunately, those research papers are very over priced. Big commercial operations have a lot of knowledge and experience on the subject but aren't willing to give away any of there secrets. Home cultivation is still in its infancy and takes large strides every few years. It's quite the phenomenon if you ask me.

Yea I guess thats true. But at least most of the big countries have equipment for its cultivation. I scroll around on ebay to see what there is and im amazed at how many types of grains are advertised for mushroom growing

Oh no I don't plan on stopping now. That would mean I threw away a few weeks worth of paycheck :p
Besides now I almost got everything I need for successful grows. Next step is buying substrates for bulk. Gypsum lime coir that kinda stuff. But for now im happy with pf, grains , lc's and agar. Just gotta have patience for them to colonise. U know where I can buy some of that? :p

Me too. Never going back to lamp. It flames my tools red hot in seconds and the bottle lasts forever. Propane tanks are like 3 to 5 bux and the top part is like ten

What percentage is it 94%?
It could also be your wick, or its position.
I use iso alcohol from the pharmacy 91%, it works well. The higher the percentage the better it works.

Yeah so just watch it. First comes the "cotton" growth and as it branches out into the Rizo growth. Then take the rizo and make another plate

Ohh I thought if its clean you just transfer it to jar immediately.
It helps to grow it on another plate?

Looking for healthy, vigorous growth is one thing but don't focus on rhink/cotton. It doesn't mean much, and a rhizo plate might go fuzzy with more nutes in the agar recipe and vice versa.
You wanna make at least a transfer or two to make sure its not hiding anything

Haha
Yea its crazy I've had some fluffy cultures way out perform the stringyest rhizo
But the nutrient content has a lot to do with it. If you wanna try it next time you mix agar use way less nutrients in the mix (potatoe dextrose or malt extract whatever you use). All your cultures will look crazy rhizo

I use already mixed antibiotic agar as I have no idea where I would find it in my country. But I guess I could increase water to agar ratio and get the same result
And come to think of it the tek I used for agar instructed me to use more than most ppl on here use

I think that would soften up the agar but it wouldnt change the nutrient to agar ratio. It would just get goopy

I think 8 might be a bit stiff.
I go 10g agar 10g malt extract or potatoe dextrose and 500ml water . That's a pretty standard recipe

I straight up dip the tip of my tools into 70%iso and hit it with a propane torch, OUTSIDE of my SAB. The flame doesn't get much larger though it does turn red until it's gone. I have an alcohol pad wet inside the SAB that is use once I have all of my things in the SAB ready to go. I use my wax dabber or an exacto depending on what I am doing
