Ten Myths About Gun Control
Al Smithies, Research Director, CSSA 1. VERY FEW PEOPLE IN CANADA OWN FIREARMS
Exactly the opposite is true: twenty-nine per cent of Canadian homes possess an estimated total of nine million firearms. Other authorities insist that even this figure is too low, and that there is at least twenty million firearms in Canada. The UN reported that Canada ranks third among the developed western countries (behind the United States and Norway) in the civilian ownership of firearms.
There is an average of three firearms in every gun-owning Canadian household. The majority of gun-owning households in Canada own rifles and/or shotguns; on a per capita basis, Canadians own nearly as many rifles as Americans.
Canadian firearm owners tend to be predominantly male, slightly older than average but with a higher than average income. Wildlife hunters are more likely to be blue collar workers or farmers, while handgun owners tend to be white collar professionals.
Canadians own firearms for target shooting, gun collecting and wildlife hunting; socially innocuous sport and recreational pursuits that generate substantial economic benefits. Canadian target shooters spend at least forty to one hundred million dollars annually on competition-related tourism. Wildlife hunting, the overwhelming majority of which involves firearms, contributes six billion dollars and thirty-three thousand jobs to the Canadian economy every year. It is a recreational activity practised by over 20% of Canadians (excluding aboriginal Canadians)

I can only assume it's for three basic reasons:
1. I don't associate with sketchy and scummy people 2. It must be way easier to get hand guns in the states. 3. I don't live in America.
More or less this. I have seen someone get shot though (sawed-off shotgun.) Without going into too much identifying detail, it was nobody I knew and it happened in a crowded public place.

No. It's impossible to get a legal one. You can get a burner as quick as you can get some weed up there.

This, Its nice to live in a safe country where people have the common decency to realise that human lives are more important than "liking guns cause there cool"
We still have guns. But they are hard to get and restricted and guess what we have never had a mass shooting since we did this, yet anyone who wants to own a gun still can.
You might not have the gun issues in Australia, but i would rather deal with people trying to kill me than every living thing in nature trying to. I would rather deal with american cops than australian spiders any day.

That was at the end of my dealing career. If you're going to meth, it's cheaper if you sell it, too. Same with all drugs. That's why I started dealing right after I started using. Twas lucrative for almost 10 years.
I did 13 months in 1982 because of that biker meth. After that, I had to get a real job... Goodtimes.

And what about Chicago? Tightest gun laws in the country and highest gun crime?

switzerland is a whole different ball game. Handguns and carrying are still quite restricted (These two issues cause most of gun crime). They also enact what the 2nd amendment TRULY meant which is an armed militia not personal use. There ownership is about military use and almost all of their ammo is kept in community armourys and they dont just carry around rifles for "protection" and the average citizen cant carry around handguns.
Chicago is still america and still has stupidly relaxed laws compared to any other modern country.
do you know what a militia is?
let's start with the definition
mi·li·tia məˈliSHə/ noun noun: militia; plural noun: militias
a military force that is raised from the civil population to supplement a regular army in an emergency. a military force that engages in rebel or terrorist activities, typically in opposition to a regular army. all able-bodied civilians eligible by law for military service.

We should totally have a badass militia. BUT. Personal ownership also should not be restricted. A good portion of our shootings (not counting gang violence) occur in gun free zones (universities, movie theaters, etc.). Duh. Where there is zero possibility of being pwnd by a good citizen who can legally wield, there are only targets. Taking legal guns only leaves illegal guns, and anyone who's trying to shoot a place up doesn't mind illegal guns.
But, relevant to the OP, yea. One time I was driving through campus, and some idiot on a bike rolls up to my window and points a gun at me. I swerved towards him & sped away haha

It'd be hard to have a personal militia without attracting the hyper passive-aggressive gun nuts that always end up carrying rifles into the court house blabbing red faced about the 2nd amendment.

As for Switzerland:
What's this picture all about then:

I've heard its mandatory in switzerland that all men recieve military training when they turn 18, when you graduate they give you your own rifle and you can choose to give it back if you disagree with the concept of firearms. I think this has to be one of the smartest ways of approaching gun ownership I've ever heard a country take.

yea exactly... which means there is no reason for muricans to be carrying them around for protection and using them in everyday life.

a nation full of sheep makes it very easy for the wolves to eat
You tell yourself that. American is in love with guns. You cant deny that.
Dont use the protection argument. Its either out of reach and useless or its out in the open and becomes a danger to your family and yourself which you are much more likely to use it against.
Science has proven protection isnt an argument so plz no.
oh yes i am in love with guns. i love shooting them, stripping and cleaning them, having them, hunting with them.. the whole nine yards.
what I do not like is the fact that people with much less sense than I do can and very, very often do acquire them and do asshattedly idiotic things with them like shoot up a campus full of unarmed, slightly soft young adults. if more americans yielded guns in a safe way and knew how to use them when fire actually broke out we would be much much more safe than we are now.
i'll tell you what. the day the anyone tries to take my guns away will be after a hefty gunfight that that leaves me dead. even then you will have to pry my stiff fingers free to get em.
guns are here, they aren't going anywhere, and if we make it that much harder for the general, law abiding public to acquire them them ore danger we will be in.
just because WE, the average, law-abiding citizen can't get them, doesn't mean that Jose the gangbanger next door doesn't have an arsenal big enough to arm a militia.
quit living in a dream world. Earth is not peaceful. generally, humans do not love or respect each other. as a whole we want to conquer and take, and if need be leave a river of blood in the wake.
I always loved gun and war talks here. I think all the acid and shrooms instilled a sense of false security and safety to some people.
keep being a sheep. when a pack of wolves show up in your neighborhood you will mince up quite nicely for their stew.
harsh words? hey, thats a little TRUTH for you.
just go to Liveleak and watch some of the videos on the Syria channel. you will learn very quickly what happens when a pack of rabid dogs get a hold of real firepower.
