My truck just hit 200k miles

I have had a 1996 Dodge Dakota for 8 years now. I bought it when it only had 135k miles on it and today it finally broke the 200k mile mark! I have had a lot of fun trips/memories with it. There is a huge V dent on my tailgate from when we went camping once. We were drunk and had a quad with a winch and pulled down a dead tree for fire wood it nailed my tailgate. It was pretty funny once I realized my truck wasn't completely fucked up. Also the DODGE emblem on my tailgate were like these rubbery letters and some asshole took off the D and E so now it says DO G. I guess it adds character.
I am totally gonna jinx myself by saying this, but only thing I've had to replace on it were tires and the brakes. Everything else still works great and the truck runs like a champ.
Does anyone else have a vehicle that they've had for a long ass time?

My wife's car has 195k on it. We'll hit 200k in no time. We've only had it for about a month or so.

I'm at 170k on my truck but I've only had it a few months Hoping it lasts for a while longer, but I got it cheap enough to make repairs.

I'm curious why you would buy a car with so many miles on it? Was it a really good deal or something?

We paid nearly 1k less than what it was actually worth in it's condition. Think we've spent around 4-500 on getting it fixed up and running right, which technically ups it's value more. Not sure by how much exactly, probably only upped it by a couple hundred, still overall, we paid a lot less than what it was worth including tax and title. If I couldn't have done the repair work myself, I probably wouldn't have went for it, because one of the issues was catalytic converter, and that can get pretty damn expensive to have a shop do.
Other than the obvious issues that needed to be fixed, it runs pretty solid and smooth. No stalling, misfiring, or rough idling or anything, at least not after a tune up. Also had it's transmission rebuilt not too long ago, so it's just one less thing I really need to worry about going wrong. It's not perfect by any means. The inside is clean as hell, even cleaner than my Hyundai which we paid almost 3x as much for. The interior looks almost brand new. All the cosmetic stuff is on the outside. Clear coat is going to shit, but paint is still fine, so shouldn't have much trouble with rusting on the panels for the foreseeable future. It's just not as "pretty" as it could be.

It's actually a pretty nice car for what it is. I LOVE the way the engine compartment is designed. Everything is easy as fuck to get to and plenty of space to work in. I had lost all hope on modern cars really giving you any room to work, but when I went to go start working on this one, I noticed how easy it was to do.
My Hyundai is a bitch and a half to work on because they basically made use of all the space in the engine compartment. There is really no clearance anywhere. If what you need to access isn't right up top, you're gonna spend a half hour taking off random parts just to get access. Even the spark plugs are a bitch to change. Taking out the alternator took me like 45 minutes or something. Someone here made a really apt description of dealing with a car like that.. "It's like fisting a gymnast"

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? I used to drive an '05 Mazda 3. That looks like an '00. Is it a Mazda 2? I really enjoyed my Mazda. Almost got a Mazda truck cause I liked it so much.

1800, it's a 2003 Protoge5. I dunno how much KBB value differs from area to area, but I know it must since they ask for your zip. The KBB on it was 2751 on the lowest condition
Quote:
Requires some mechanical repairs The paint and bodywork may require refinishing and body repair The engine compartment has leaks and may require repairs May have some repairable rust damage The body has dents, chips, and/or scratches The interior has substantial wear, and may have small tears Wheels may be warped or bent, have major scratches, scrapes, or pitting and require replacement The tires may not match and need replacing Needs servicing, but is still in reasonable running condition with a clean title history A few service records are available
Bolded is the stuff that actually fit the description of the car. The only reason I can't say it's value is the next tier up (and worth well over 1k more than we paid for it) is because the paint/body work isn't exactly minor and it wouldn't have passed the smog check since it needed a new cat.
I think we just got lucky and talked to the right person at the right time. If I were able to find cars like this regularly, I'd just start buying them off craigslist, fix them myself, and resell at a profit. I'm not confident enough in my abilities to do that and I really doubt I'd find many cars that would give me that kind of margin for profit.
