Can over picking lead to a scarce season?
    #22346736 - 10/07/15 06:08 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

I'm wondering if over picking a particular field would lead to less fruiting later in the season or even the next season?
I'm having trouble with certain locations this year that i have never had issues with before.

This is normal, sometimes you will have a spot which produces for a number of years, then abruptly stops producing fruits.  I have seen this many times with Panaeolus subbalteatus in horse pastures.  What I do is if a field is not producing a lot one year, find a new field, check back on the old one next season.

It's always best to have numerous patches to hit up, that way when one is dry, you can check another.

When I was hunting Psilocybe caerulescens down south I would have numerous patches which fruited in the spring/summer months but did not produce in the fall.  When this would happen I would hit up other patches which did fruit in the fall but not the spring/summer.  It was nice having numerous patches to hunt in, this way I could cycle through them till I found one which was golden.
