stevo said: Thats odd. I have a variety in my patch that originates from Pennsylvania (black pins) spores and one from Oakland, CA which is more cream colored and wavy and the california variety is mainly the one that is fruiting in the fall. The PA variety was the better spring fruiter. What I would do if possible is pile leaves over the patch.
The stray ovoids I posted yesterday are from a patch that put out a flush, albeit a weak one, about a week ago. Those are "greenies." The patch that won't fruit (besides a tiny specimen a month ago) consists of the orange pin variety...if such a thing exists. I'll collect a bunch of dead leaves today and cover the patch tomorrow after tonight's rain. Thanks.

Done. Lol, the landscapers will be like, "How odd, look at how the leaves collected all in one place...and there's not even any orange trees or grape vines around here."

Dammit David, that is just the kick in the ass that I need to get out there and check some spots. I have been waiting for a "real" rain storm, not these couple of piddly, little ones.
I went for a few hikes here and there and didn't see much in the way of fungi, active or otherwise, but you've proven that they are are out there. I just hate spending my time looking for little guys when I know that if we get a big storm, they will be popping everywhere like mad.
Guess I just need to buck up and get out there tomorrow.

I had a dream last night that I found my first patch and it was beautiful! So disappointed when I woke up... It's hard to motivate myself to go looking around urban areas for mushrooms I prefer to wander in the woods but I'm gonna get in gear now and find myself some actives!

I was in the bay last night and decided to take A side trip to check on the cyan patch from a previous post. The patch that had been covered with pine mulch. Good news, it's fruiting. Not nearly as good as last season, but good enough. I am surprised that the Allenii patches nearby are not pinning yet.

Last week I finally made my trip around town checking on the patches that I found last season, not a single one of them were fruiting as far as I can see (I didn't look too thoroughly to see if any pins are hiding).
I did manage to find a small new patch of allenii though . I could only see about a handful or two worth of fruits, only a few mature specimens . (was hoping this recent rain would make for some foggy damp nights out here, but the wind that came through was so damn dry, pushed the moisture out and dried things up real quick).
I did see a lot of leratiomyces ceres fruiting in the same areas where I saw allenii and cyans growing last season, and lots of L ceres in general around just about every spot I was scoping out .

I checked some spots that have produced cyans in the past but there weren't any to be found. Only a few agaricus and sullius.

90% of the patches I found last year aren't showing anything yet either. Spots receiving the same amount of irrigation as last year seem to be about two weeks behind schedule.

I have noticed this also. I contribute it to the lack of irrigation due to water restriction and the late fall. It was warm until the first rain and has been cool since. Trees are just now starting to lose there leaves. Whereas the trees used to be bare at Halloween. Two of the biggest patches I found last year were right before Christmas. The season is slow to start where I have been looking

Illegally tampering with the irrigation control valve at my downtown cyan spot is one of the best decisions I've ever made, lol. Here's some pics from today. Zoom in close on the last pic and look at all the pins that have sprung up in the past few days.

BTW, I'm running the irrigation twice a day, for about 5 minutes each time.
