Post deleted by Alan RockefellerReason for deletion: mod edit - hunting forum rule:
5. Do not make threads or posts discussing or reporting the weather.
This includes complaining about the weather, asking if the current weather is "good for shrooms", or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting. If it has rained within the last 1-10 days, and the temperatures are correct for the type of mushroom you're looking for, and the time of year is correct then it is certain that that the mushroom you are looking for is growing.

east bay... go on... any suggestions for a noob hunter looking for cyans?

No, not really, other than you are only going to find them in developed building areas with mulched gardens, like strip malls, or look for micro-climates that form near bodies of water. Look for alder wood mulch, google it to see what it looks like, and go out looking 2 days after it's rained a good day or two minimum to start looking for baby mushrooms that signify a patch is there.
Definitely not going to give up any spots online.
Good luck, and some advice another member gave on here "when you've gone out looking two days straight and found nothing but look a likes, then be ready that third day to go with as much will as before and maybe you'll find your first patch."
Once you find one patch and get an idea, you'll find the rest.

is it even worth searching the Sac valley for actives? Lets say roughly 50 miles from the bay.
Obviously it's too dry at the moment, I was thinking about the possibility of a wet year.
Yes. I and others have photographed them fairly regularly for the last several years from the central valley.

Sadly; there hasn't been much of that watering going on this year, so time will tell.

There is no alder mulch in the bay area because we don't have alder trees here. The majority of the mulch in the bay is douglas fir, the rest is various species that tree trimming companies cut.

Alan, is it too much to ask for you to refrain from editing the images from our posts? And perhaps to restore the ones removed? Speaking for myself, when I include another's photos in my post, I do so intentionally...and I'd like my posts to remain as I posted them unless edited by me. I feel the same about the thread as a whole. Not to mention it now reads funky with our images removed after the fact.

I don't think it is necessary to quote the images too. Just quoting the text is enough for people to see what you are replying to.

Ah my head must be stuck in Washington mode, do cyanescens do well in douglas fir mulch? I guess I could answer my own question just by going to my patches and looking closer to see what type of mulch is used.
Anyone else finding their patches are growing in SF? Was thinking gods tears that fall from sky sky would make boom grow.

They love it.
I haven't gotten over to the bay yet this year but you can see who's finding activity by perusing this thread itself. If you're not seeing much it's because not a lot of people are seeing much. If that's not good enough get out there and add some pictured

Yes, after the rain and sun leeches out the tannins/resins.

Found a few cyans nearby. Will come back in a week to check on them

Idk what it looks like but maybe they will still grow there? I've know of patches that fruit in mulch(pnw though)

I found a perfect potential spot for cyans. but it looks like the mulch is brand new. in some areas its still piled up waiting to be spread. is it safe to assume that anything that is potentially there wont fruit this year or anytime soon?

Yes, the mulch needs to sit there a year or two before it gets colonized by mushrooms. When this happens it will turn a darker grey color.
Any mushrooms at all growing from the chips is a sign that it has been there long enough.

I am hoping so. I pulled back a few square feet of the mulch and exposed great looking mycelium. The mulch was really fine and full of pine needle etc

More P. cyanescens from my sole fruiting patch.

I was pleased to find hundreds of pins growing this morning. I doused the patch with four gallons of water.

I've had the same thing, happen to a patch but it was not mulch just all, pine needles and pine wood from fallen winter trees. And they came back stronger then ever. I have hope
