Hello everyone I am new to this forum and new to mushrooms as of like two days ago they have always intrigued me and I am in the East Bay Area and Contra Costa County I was wondering if anybody can give me a guesstimate on what some of these mushrooms I have found around a church property that has a very mulch ground and has oak trees pine trees birch trees you name it very old ones. As I have tried to, search them out of curiosity to so many variations but at the same time to so many lookalikes I would like to get your opinions thank you very much I really want to get into this hobby and end of this science and I'm looking for a group to go mushroom searching this weekend

Not to be a downer but Identification request need to have there own thread. also, to get together with other people with same interest you will need to go to the gathering forum. This group is strictly for posting confirmed Actives from the SFBA. (And apparently pointing out the rules) Anyway, Welcome.

i am stationed in sebastopol, and i have looked for at least 50 hours since x-mas, and the only active ive seen is amanita. am i just overlooking? i've checked libraries, doctors offices, cheap apts, cemetaries, schools, parks:you get the idea. i have seen sooo many of the look-alikes, and some beautiful purple-ish ones, but not one cyanescens or allenii! ;-( i wish to find them and inoculate some woodchips, and see how long it takes them to decompose them. i am very intrigued by mushrooms in genereal, and always do my part to "propigate the species"(sp?). i was even considering decorating a tree with a.muscaria balls for x-mas!
i think i gotta actually see one, like have it shown to me. i never forget what im shown. any suggestions?? Locals willing to help?? thanks and happy Saturday to youuuu!

Found these today in SF, just before the sky's opened up. Are they Fibs? Cyans? Alleni's?......

Right on. They looked a little atypical to me. Plus they came from a patch that had lots of strange looking fruits when it flushed earlier in the season. See photos.....

They do look like ovoids...the type with pointy caps. The presence of a veil remnant would make it more certain. I think I see one in the last pic.
EDIT: Examine those carefully though...they look like there's a chance they could be Galerina autumnalis.

Nice! Thanks for the info. I left most to mature but I take some more pics to confirm.

hi randallsbook. Yes, that is fact. But my question... for instance, imagine that you treat two samples of two different species exactly the same way. The one that reveals more bruising is the more potent, or it has nothing to do with it and some species (regardless of the potency) just tend to bruise more/less?
cheers

Here is a shot of one that I snipped. It's hard to tell because some of them were pretty soggy but I think there is evidence of a veil in this pic.
I appreciate your opinions, let me know what you think.

The bluing is not actually due to degradation of psilocin/psilocybin. According to Paul Stamets, it's due to a degradation pathway of a still unknown compound that exists in psilocybin mushrooms.
Bluing is generally just a sign of damage. It does not directly tell you about psilocybin/psilocin content. Of course, damaged mushrooms are likely to have some of their psilocin/psilocybin degrade as well.

Hard to tell from that pic. Is it super delicate and fragile?
Here's a few shots of some Galerina I found earlier in the season that look a little bit similar:

Around the same time I found some Tubaria furfuracea that also had pointy caps:

EDIT: Also, how do they smell? The ovoids I found this season had, especially when wet with rain, an unmistakable P. cubensis smell.
