I've never seen P. stuntzii fresh so I am not the best person to tell them apart, someone from the PNW would have a much better idea. A few seconds under the microscope would tell though, they have very different cheilocystidia. I think the annulus on the two species should be different, also the taste and smell is different. The two species aren't very closely related - Guzman puts the both in section Stuntzii due to the annulus, but actually they are pretty far apart, with ovoids being over by cubensis and stuntzii very close to P. semilanceata and P. baeocystis.

Interesting. Something to clear up next season...or perhaps this Spring.

I found a diverse civilization living in Livermore but without actives (I believe). Still haven't come across one! Here's a look at the various types I found on my walk today:

Looks like you have Gymnopilus sapineus, Pholiota velaglutinosa, Leratiomyces percevalii, Leratiomyces ceres, Clitocybe fragrans, Psathyrella corrugis and Melanoleuca. Keep looking, both in Livermore and also a bit closer to the coast like Berkeley.

Nice dude! I have never come across a stunzi or even an ovoid since I've been hunting.
I was out burning the midnight oil and was happy to see my patience pay off. These are part of a larger patch that finally reached maturity.

once my brothers cat got into his cubensis bag and ate a couple grams. He is still probably looking for the red laser dot I like that picture hahaa

JUST NOW:

P. cyanescens & P. allenii at the 'magic spot' discovered last season. The second pic shows a few cyan youngsters.

Found these today. Anyone have any idea what they might be?
Would actives ever NOT bruise? I've been finding a lot of stuff that looks like the ovoids and the ones I just posted, but nothing that bruises.

I think those are Psathyrella. Sometimes Psilocybes bruise only minimally, but you'll almost always see at least a hint of bluing.

Did a little more research and I think they might be fairy rings (Marasmius oreades)? http://www.mycokey.org/speciesindex/1342/

Is bruising always directly proportional to specie potency? or it also depends on the strain/specie? (some species and/or strains, disregarding of potency tend to bruise more/less)
cheers

My guess is that there isn't much of a correlation at all between the degree of bluing and potency. As for potency of particular strains, I'm not sure if this relates to woodloving Psilocybes but a researcher once found that a given culture (and hence a given strain) of P. cubensis varied widely in potency from flush to flush.

Today in SF:

and the under sides:

These were at a spot I've been trolling since November. I've been so certain that it looked like prime habitat, but it consistently disappointed (and mocked me with Leratiomyces ceres) - until today! It's near the kitchen entrance to a restaurant, and because it's been my experience that kitchen staff know their recreational substances I was doubly surprised by the find.
Sorry no habitat shots, there was a valet like 15ft away talking on his phone and other people about, so I pretended I was invisible and opted for a quick pinch and grab, gently stuffed them into my coat pocket and ran back to work so I could admire them in my desk drawer. I plan to go back this weekend when I can give the area a proper search.
Happy fucking Friday everyone!

Fact: The more blue you actually are seeing the less potent that particular one will be. you want that bluing to happen inside of you not wasted on viewing it happening.
