Just now I checked a known spot and found a few clusters of nice mature cyans, but I decided to eat lunch in my car before taking pics and harvesting 'em. Not two minutes before I'm ready to carry out the task, look who showed up:

Pesti-man. He sprayed less that a yard away from the patch. I know most urban woodchip beds are periodically sprayed, but when you actually see it happen it produces a horrible feeling. Needless to say I rolled up my windows pronto and got the fuck outta there. Sorry, cyans, you can rot!

My amateur advice would be to revisit known patches and search the surrounding area... They do not all fruit simultaneously so checking back and doing a full search of the area is recommended.
Wow, I found the same thing today. After visiting known spots without much luck this whole season, things finally started popping today and I made pretty good haul.

I'm glad you made the dive and it worked out!
About today...
#1.

#2

#3

#4

#5

Visited same spot as last night after work because I didn't have the time to do a thorough run through the area. Needless to say, it paid off. It started with 3 small finds such as pic #1 and like a trail of bread crumbs it lead me to pic #2. #3, #4, and #5 were all within a 20 ft radius.
Canvas your known spots, you may stumble upon a vein of gold!

I don't think there is much I could offer that hasn't already been discussed on here. In my experience though, I have had a lot of success in locations that are close to a body of water. Not sure if that has any scientific grounding but its just a recurring pattern I have noticed. The only advice I would recommend is spend as much time as you can hunting. I spent about 20 hrs looking my first year before I found a good sized patch.

P. allenii this morning at a known spot found around a month ago. This is part of my final clean-up effort...as my plan is to pack up shop by this weekend. Then it's back to my other life until October. (Though I might, just might, check on my ovoid finds in the Spring.)
Bonus)
Clitocybe nuda & Hygrocybe conica found this morning.

I have a few questions for you more experience hunters...
How common are these? With all the daily pics you guys make it seem like they are everywhere! I personally never seen any around.
There seems to be a large variation in the color and shape of these mushrooms. I never seen one in person, so I don't have the "feel" to discern look a likes vs. variation within the species. You guys seem to be able to tell just by looking at a general pic. What sets them apart that makes it so obvious? I know they bruise blue, but a lot of pics don't show the bruising. When you first started, did you go with someone more experienced to help?
thanks!

Psilocybes are neither common nor rare. Usually takes a few hours of looking to find a new spot.
Even without the blue staining, Psilocybes have a distinct, recognizable form.

Curious. What actives can be found in the foothills? I lived in ElDorado hills and Paradise,Forest ranch. Only mushrooms i ever seen were Liberty Caps(Dry) and who knows were they came from. I wasn't really in to them back then. Same goes for when i lived in the east Bay? Lots of lsd blotter i remember.

Hey folks, new here. Just started searching and haven't had any luck.
Almost positive I found some cyanescens in GG Park this weekend, but they'd been trampled on and were black / rotting.
Glad to know they are some still out there though!
