My timing this morning was awful -I decided to leave home within the 30 minutes that rain poured . so I was soaked on my way to a regular South Bay location in a private complex(the patch on the main road was absent, I checked 2 weeks ago but didnt go inside )but thankfully I was able to go inside and pick for an hour or so. Many different planters had Allenii & Cyanescens. The people in the complex were really cool -one person told me I ahouldnt leave before picking all the mushrooms lol. I've got habitat shots but not until I can get a computer..
Here is the haul

From today:

P. cyanescens. A handful of blue babes from one of this season's finds, Psilocybe World. The place is startin' to live up to its name, as today I found most of the above specimens scattered far and wide from the originally discovered patch...which was already extensive. If the new rains bring out a big flush I can hardly imagine how awesome it'll be.
Bonus)
A small orange-iced cinnamon bun cake I made today for my gf's b-day. The cinnamon bun in the first pic is flourless and raw...it being made from only walnuts, dates, a pinch of sea salt, and a dusting of cinnamon and coconut sugar. The icing is made from butter, powdered sugar and orange zest. 100% organic and super yums.

That shit looks Tasty. The Cake looks good as well. Question; How do you find the time to hunt? I would imagine your spots and new spots are very spread out. Being the size of the BArea and all. You, David. Are living the dream. At least in my slumber.

I was wondering the same thing about David. I'm super jelly, even with how good the PNW was this year.
Flights from the ham to SF start under $200. Alas, I have no time.

LOL I'm in SF and I can't decide if I'm more jelly or just more awed by the spectacle.

If I was there I wouldn't be jelly. I'd be finding mushrooms. You're right though, man. It is a spectacle to behold.

I've been finding them - just can't seem to find more than one at a time! But this is my first year hunting and I'm completely happy that I've found any. I figure it can only get better as I have more spots to go back to every season.

Eek! Kind of looking like the end of the season. The recent rains will bring up a few, but probably not very many.
The time to go out and look is now, they tend to get very sparse after the second week of January. P. cyanescens and P. ovoideocystidia fruit longer than P. allenii.
This weekend is the Santa Cruz Fungus Fair!
http://ffsc.us/fair/2016/about
I'll be here all week identifying what comes in, mostly focusing on the hard stuff like Tricholoma and Cortinarius. My talk is Saturday at 1pm, it's going to be about how to use computers to ID mushrooms and how to use DNA analysis to discover new species.
If anyone can find any mushrooms, please bring them to the fair. Especially blue stainers, we are going to need a few for display.

Randallsbook - It often does become difficult to manage my time, and sometimes I get an urge to spend every minute looking for new finds...causing me to neglect my known patches.
Dys - It was actually a HP that led to me finding 750.
Alan - Most of those in the pic came from areas of woodchip that haven't fruited previously this season. Also, my biggest allenii producer from last season hasn't yet pushed up a single fruit this year. A couple other spots too. I think with the coincidence of a horribly dry and windy Oct - Dec, and El Nino during Jan and Feb, the bulk of the season for most spots will commence around now. I hope I'm not wrong...but if I am I can live with it being over. I was close to calling it quits already when things came to a halt over the holidays.

I think you'll find that 50% of patches fruit in subsequent years. This can be increased a lot by feeding them fresh woodchips. Now is a good time to add more wood chips, as most fruiting is done but we still have plenty of rain left to help the new chips colonize.

I don't think so, Psilocybe cyanescens & P. allenii are early season mushrooms. Especially P. allenii fruits very fast and then is done, P. cyanescens can fruit a little longer, the latest I have found them is April 1. Other non-active species are late season and haven't even started in our area yet.

So I came across a fairly big patch today and was able to salvage like 25 or 30 from it but a bit nervous on identification and to many to just post thoughts? They were on wood chips white stems some still caramel others moving to black. Gil's attached to stem blue bruising on stems and caps of a few but not On all...
