I've found a patch of cyans in the presence of Hippy bumsters last month. I'm never worried about bums picking psychedelic mushrooms because even if I showed them fresh cyans they would forget by morning how theylooked. I'd like to think that in the case of the bums , psychedelics aren't their primary interest.
I think the unknown mushroom in the picture is the honey mushroom , but Im possibly wrong.
Nice find get out there before its too late. Mrry Christmas Eve everybody.

Today's revisit to two North Bay finds:
1)
It's been almost two weeks since leaving these as youngsters...I can't believe they actually made it with all the cold windy dryness in the interval. Nothing new at the spot though.
2)
A few clusters of youngsters left here completely disappeared...but luckily a new crop of pins was up and about. There were also numerous new adults hidden in the adjacent ivy like last time, providing just enough specimens to make the trip worthwhile.
Bonus)
My gf liked all the mossy stuff going on at the second location. She needed some sources of joy...after all, I promised her that today was gunna be "much warmer" than last time (oops, lol), whereas in fact as we proceeded we watched the thermometer drop from 55 to 44. But she was also happy that we got to eat at Amy's Drive Thru again, which, I can't emphasize enough, for fast food is truly awesome.
* WARNING * WARNING * WARNING *
Peeps, if you have fruiting patches right now it's time to cover 'em up again! Saturday's gunna be absolutely brutal...windy and very very dry! (We're talking 15 mph winds and 40% humidity, yikes!) The first pic that follows shows how I covered the pins seen above. Grass might also work as shown in the next pic...probably not ideal but it's all I had nearby at the time. And the last two pics show another method....a layer of something fresh like grass and then a top layer of dry leaves. My guess is that the best cover of all, if you can find 'em, would be fresh leaves. Don't forget to water the patch first and to top your cover with twigs or woodchips!

I got off work yesterday around 12am. When I got home my roommate wanted to go on a Walmart adventure to acquire more basic room furniture. We took a detour out to a patch where he had located some unidentified mushrooms. When we pulled up to the location my roommate jumped out of the car to grab a specimen for inspection. Immediately I knew we had stumbled onto a score!

Unfortunately I didn't take any habitat photos at the time, but my curiosity was peaked so before going into work I decided to explore the area before going to work and I stumbled onto a deadly foe....

But surrounding was Gods gift.. 4 patches similar to the one that we ran across the night prior.

An amazing early Christmas Gift. Happy hunting!

Last time I posted I was fooled by some tubarias. Found in a shopping center in Morgan Hill, Ca. I'm nearly certain these are cyans since they look exactly like them and bruise blue. Have I misidentified them? If not this would be the best Christmas present the earth ever gave me. Merry Christmas!

I spent last night enjoying eggnog and cleaning mushrooms, they're all now drying in a giant plastic tub with a pretty damn big floor fan above it

Thanks for the input! I found those original ones at 2am on a walk home. Just went back to my spot, turns out they totally invaded the area. Alot of them are growing under gutter leakage and seem repulsively waterlogged but good news is they look like alleniis to some extent but still develop the wavy caps. Any more input?

Found these today in SF, they're looking pretty old but are they active? Bluing can be seen on the stems so I'm pretty sure, but it doesn't come across very well in the photos. I would feel a lot better if I could get an ID!

and here they are about an hour later:

Yes, Tofurky, those are P. cyanescens destroyed by dry wind succeeded by rain. Virtually everything I found today is in the same condition.

Thank you! I thought so, but they were so abused. Not really rotting I don't think, but close to it. They're in front of the fan now. I realized a lot of the black on them is just spores.
Damn we wandered around GGP and saw perky, fresh LBMs all over the place - after three or four hours of being led on by the kickers we decided to suck it up and called it a day. But you know, going home empty handed is no fun, so on the way we hit a spot where I used to work and knew they had gardens - which turned it all around in the best way.
We did see some cool things in the park tho - here's a baby basket stinkhorn:

I had to cut it open:

and here's the fam:

Cheers!

The black around the edges of the caps is rot...what happens is that the dry cold wind desicates the edges, killing the tissue. Then it rains again, rehydrating the dead tissue and hence making it rot.
