ID Help.
Found a decent patch of Alleni's today and decided to dig deeper in the surrounding area. I stumbled across these:

They have a large caramel colored cap which is faded from the dry wind. white stem that is bruising blue. They almost looked like alleni's at first but they can't be. I searched through all the psilocybe species listed on here and none of them seem like a dead ringer.
Anyone have an idea?

Really?! Interesting..
I guess picking them while so dry had me confused.
Follow up Question: There were many mushrooms I found in that patch today that we dried turning deep greenish/bluish and some black. Have these lost any of their potency? Is there any harm in consuming them?
DavidReishi, you have been crushing it this season! I have taken your advice and successfully brought a couple patches back to life through watering and covering. El Nino it seems has blessed the bay with a bountiful harvest.

It's hard to say without experimenting whether there's potency loss when they get injured, though when they actually rot, i.e. turn black, there probably is loss. I remember reading that with carrots, for example, damage actually increased their antioxidant content, and I also remember reading that with other fruits and vegetables, for example, aging didn't negatively affect their content...all the up to the point of rotting. As for harm from consuming them, I think you can avoid the risk by simply drying them completely...but there might be certain organisms than can leave behind toxins.

Thanks!...though I feel like a schmuckatelli for not finding anything new today! I commented before on your amazing resuscitation of those blackies...I never would've guessed that was possible, at least to the degree seen in your pics. Also, I don't think our weather so far is from El Nino...that's yet to arrive and'll be marked by wetness and warmer temps.

I'll be back for the mushrooms later. I'm on a seven hour walk through Berkeley today while my car's at the dealership...and I certaintly don't wanna be walking around all day with fresh allenii. I'm now celebrating my find by relaxing for a few minutes and treating my body to a delicious organic raw kale dish from Cafe Gratitude.

Thanks for the info.
Yea, I went on a bit of a dry spell myself last week. Things seem to be turning around though; here are a couple new patches found today - all Alleni
First - dried out but salvageable

Second - Mix, some dried but a lot of fresh pins popping up. I applied the "David's Method" and watered and covered. Should be fine with the rain coming this weekend.

Third - Drying out but still moist, smallest of the three

Bonus: Went to an old cyan patch last night that has been dry since the property owner has not irrigated. Seems some must have fruited in my absence; dried but still good.

They're out there, just keep hunting!

Do NOT despair, You are worthy enough and the shrooms want you to find them. But like the ladies they want us to work some to show we really want them. So do ALL the recommended tips before and while you are hunting. Take a clean sheet of paper and write down ( no need for blood, a pen or pencil will do ) the answers to these questions. 1) Are they found in this location 2) Where do they grow in this location 3) What time of the year do people see them. 4) Do they NEED moisture to fruit. I could type up many more but I don't wanna ..YOU are plenty smart enough to learn the requirements. One last thing, despite what You think, they want you to find them, but they 'know' it will take as long as it takes. Be SAFE.

Cigam - They look great!...you should wait for the rest. They're doing so well, why not? It's amazing how slow they're maturing...must be a combination of the cold and the fact that they're all clustered together. Covering 'em up has kept 'em in perfect shape!
AmatuerHunter - Great finds out in this brutal weather...I'm green with envy!
EDIT: Almost forgot...look at this heart warming sign I spotted today in the East Bay.
