Fuck yeah, Dumpstermuffin, great find! Those are, of course, Psilocybe cyanescens. To preserve 'em, cut off the stem bases, clean the mushrooms with a damp paper towel or by washing 'em in cold water if they haven't begun to dry, and then set 'em in front if a fan for around 48 hours (until the stems are stiff all the way up to the cap.) Then place 'em in an airtight bag inside an airtight jar, and stick the jar in the freezer.

EDIT:  Another thing I do is place about a half inch of silica granules at the bottom of each jar. Also, as the season progresses and finds and harvests become bigger and bigger, jars have to be foregone and airtight bag inside airtight bag has to be resorted to.

12/13/15. North Bay. New finds.

1)

This location, which is a private business, was found to contain half a dozen small patches of P. allenii, each with just a few mature fruits, and one sizable patch. As seen in the third pic, there was also a little fruiting of cyans. The business has a more vast woodchip bed behind a tall locked fence. After loading the finds into the car I had my gf wait and went to knock on the entrance door to see if they'd let me in the back...but as it looked like nobody was there, I took it upon myself to climb the fence. For some reason I was pleased to find no additional patches back there...I think because if I had, I'd feel a burden to do the same sort of thing at other places.

2)

The final destination today was a state government run complex. With only thirty minutes of sunlight left I spotted a nice quaint area loaded with P. allenii pins and youngsters. Searching a bit further I discovered that the ivy patch next to the area was almost equally loaded with youngsters and fully mature specimens. The last pic above shows the fruits of another patch found on our way back to the car after sundown. I think I'll have to travel back out tomorrow to prepare the pins and youngsters for the upcoming dryness we're about to receive...I might as well make another North Bay hunting day out of it.

Bonus)

Look at the name on the building in the first pic, lol. The other two pics were taken at Amy's Drive Thru in Rohnert Park...the coolest fast food joint around. Everything except the sodas is organic.

Not a great picture of the environment, but I was trying to avoid attention. You can see a blurry group of fresh ones at the top left and some dry, black ones at the bottom-right.

I've got a spore print going right now, and I'll post it ASAP.

Up until now, I had been picking all kinds of species, and spending hours trying to identify them. But when you find what you're looking for, it kinda jumps out at you.

Can someone please verify these are what I hope they are? Also:

1. Should I be worried about other dangerous look-alikes?, and which ones?
2. Can anyone point me in the direction of preserving and preparation?

All help appreciated!

man! i am so jealous. i have been trying to find a dedicated patch for 2 months. today was the first that i found and it was only 3. thats some pretty good intuition as to which wood chip pile to go investigate. congrats dude.

I've been lurking for weeks in purgatorial torture/pleasure watching DavidReishi & all of you out there finding tons of magical fruit across the bay.

Every day this week before & after work, I've scoured each green inch on my bike commute, finding only sketchy dudes with trash bags & cops crawling all over Golden Gate Park. But this weekend, I finally got some numbers on the board at one of my patches!

Things were just starting off, but I found a few decent sized guys to take home for lunch.

I also scooped some of the more myceliated clumps beneath the larger mushrooms, because ever since I read about low-tek propagation methods last year I intend to start many, many patches & spread this awesome organism to every welcoming habitat I can find!

First attempt at making cardboard spawn for a mother patch. Also have some p. allenii and p. cyanescens that was graciously plated on agar for me at the Fungus Fair a few weeks back. Plan to make some spawn bags in the coming weeks, will certainly share the progress.

Off to a very slow start for me compared to last year's bonanza, but if nothing else, already gearing up for a record-breaker next year!

The bay is a huge area and they grow all over, there is no reason to hunt in GGP.

Nice Rafiikii, but did you not load the wrong pic for the last one?...It pretty clearly shows allenii.

 Nice job but next time don't disturb the myc, leave it in the ground, the way you harvested those you've ensured that the patch will take negative hit and have to replenish the myc. please please please always use snips, scissors or pinch to harvest and disturb the ground as little as possible.... this hurts my eyes to see all that myc still attached, aye yi yi,  bitter sweet.... pinch off all that myc and stump and go toss it back you found those.... :waaaaaaargh:

Trip back from SFO today stopped at south city location I was curious about, ended up paying off, cyans in varying sizes.

NCDayTripper... yes, yes, while not pro forma, the mycelium was removed. The gods will forgive.

I am always respectful when harvesting simply the fruit bodies to cut/pinch while leaving mycelium intact, but my intent this year is to grow enough spawn bags to fill a refrigerator & begin planting instead of hunting.

The patch I pulled those twigs from is large & sprawling, mostly in small clusters scattered over an area more than 50 feet across. Although the single sticks I pulled up will no longer be contributing to the vigor of the overall mega-patch, they will be well fed before I spawn them out into other areas.

Gotta break an egg or two to make an omelette, friend.

GKid I was more speaking to dumpstermuffin, the pics of their take was literally a "crime scene" as stated by another member.  that patch will likely take years to recover from that kind of myc slaughter.

A good deal of my patches aren't fruiting yet, i remain hopeful.

As far as cutting your find id say that you cant always do that, sitting in a parking lot for an hour usually gives you away.

Last year i had found ovoids cyans and allenii growing naturally within a hundred feet of each other, sadly i was planting spawn and the "engineer" called the cops on me, said i was planting spores. The guy is a glorified landscaper who gave me permission in the first place.

I cant let the spot go due to how huge it is. Ovoids all around but i have to plan carefully now

Harvest high profile locations early or late... Get creative, there is always a way, promoting and encouraging that type of harvesting only hurts the fungus and the collectors, we need to look at these specimens as more then just mind altering substances for our own needs and remember their contribution to the ecosystem. Ok I'll step step off my soap box... sry...(sigh....)

NCDay...I feel you man. You're preaching a truth that more need to hear, especially on forums like this where many are just looking for the minimum info to find themselves a free high.  I didn't see the 'crime scene' you were responding to when I read your post- ouch!

Hopefully someone harvesting that much mycelium would use it to fill the backyards of all their friends & fam with active fungi & spare the public patches future abuse...one can hope, at least.

Personally, I'd love to see more promoting of low-impact, low-tek propagation, it's pretty easy if you take a minute to figure out the basics. Would be a benefit to the ecosystems & communities in question if every picker was a planter too!

I am forever a noob. When i cant cut my finds i at the least bring a backpack full of bleached clean chips to place in the divets. I feel horrible when i can't cut every single one.

I had actually left and on the way back from the market i noticed the cop parked at the hotel speaking with the landscaper.

I came back a week later and he came out and said i cant plant and that it was okay to pick but not anymore. I told him he was mistaken and that i was not digging or planting in the chips and that i was just putting woodchips in the divets i made picking.

Needless to say i left and didnt go back for months untill recently since ive been casing the joint out. I just have to go at night and be quick.

Thankfully i avoided any sort of rape
