This is my first hands on experience with them, so I'm really not the person to ask. I'm personally drying them with a fan, but I may move over to the dehydrator. After they're wafer dry I'll move to a plastic bag with packets of desiccants in it.

That all looks delicious! I feel confident ID'ing the actives I've found so far, but edibles are much more intimidating and I need a lot more practice.
Yesterday I went back to the GGP allenii spot I found last weekend and gathered a few more handfuls (sorry no pics of these). The ground in the immediate area was full of mycelium, don't know what kind, but it sure will be interesting to see. We walked around for a couple more hours, but didn't see anything else active.
We did see a few other interesting mushrooms:
1) maybe young Cortinarius violaceus? - they looked more purplish in the woods than they do in the photo...

2) don't know what this is, but I'd like to. I left it there, so no spore print.

a closer view:

3) blewits - I spore printed one of these

and a closer view:

#2 looks like an amanita. Looks Coccora-ish but i cant see the cap that well for the little lines on the ridge of the cap margin. However, phalloides is starting to pop and those can sometimes mimic Coccora. #3 how ya gonna cook your blewits?

2 could be an Amanita, but based on the ring (it looks movable) I'm guessing some kind of Leucoagaricus.

ive heard some species of magic lose potency in the dehydrator is all. ive got them on a fan with cardboard right now. theyre pretty wet so i feel like transferring them to the dehydrator would be best. have you ever heard of potency lose due to dehydrating technique?

Maybe if you dry them at very high temps. I keep mine at 105 and there is definitely no potency loss. It is very convenient if you want to get 2-3 ounces cracker dry in 12 hours (you could probably do more but I don't like to overfill mine).
And when it comes to edibles a dehydrator is a must IMO. Especially when it comes to porcini and morels, I always pick more of both than I can eat and both of them have stronger flavors once they're dried.

I've been lurking around here for several weeks trying to learn stuff. And I've spent a few dozen hours wandering over hills and through forests looking for interesting things.
As I looked over this thread, I realized that I had been looking in the wrong sorts of places. So tonight I stopped by a spot that had some woodchips under bushes.

Not a great picture of the environment, but I was trying to avoid attention. You can see a blurry group of fresh ones at the top left and some dry, black ones at the bottom-right.

I've got a spore print going right now, and I'll post it ASAP.
Up until now, I had been picking all kinds of species, and spending hours trying to identify them. But when you find what you're looking for, it kinda jumps out at you.
Can someone please verify these are what I hope they are? Also:
1. Should I be worried about other dangerous look-alikes?, and which ones? 2. Can anyone point me in the direction of preserving and preparation?
All help appreciated!
