I think they're Hypholoma fasciculare. There's a campus in the East bay literally full of 'em right now. Definitely beautiful!

Hey, thanks!

Looks like things are gearing up for a second flush here in the north bay.  This photo is from a local patch this morning ~

Today I followed up on my offer to go check on, and harvest if need be, two spots of SpacecadetCID's since he's currently living out of the area. Both spots turned out to be well into fruiting. The second spot, corresponding to the second pic, consisted of many upon many small patches...which quickly added up.

Trust is a beautiful thing...."Nah, man, not fruiting yet."

j/k

which? the porcini i pick in a real woodsy area that basically has an ocean view, and i try to only take the ones that the pores are firm and white still. so i left alot behind. its amazing how big they can get there and still not be buggy.

cyans and allenii are in town.

After one unsuccessful season scouring my town for actives, I have finally come across the elusive wavy cap. Irrigation has been at a standstill due to the drought up here in Sonoma County, but these recent downpours seem to have done the trick. All David's finds have had me salivating over my keyboard for the last couple months and it's nice to finally be able to contribute. Found in Northern Sonoma county.

Was wandering around San Francisco today after the rain and came upon this patch of mushrooms.
Wondering if they are cyans or allenii? The part that really make me unsure is they don't seem to bruise blue or bruise in general.  Is bruising a key identifier?

Habitat: Wood chips, near grass, along a trail under trees.

Gills:

Stem: white to tan, did not see any veil.

Cap: 4cm

Bruising: Did not see any bruising on the stem.  Cap edges did not bruise either.

Here is another shot:

General location: San Francisco, CA

Let me know what you think and thanks for your expertise!

i usually stick to the woods when i drive up there. ill poke through town for sure next time though. usually have matsu, chants, blacks, yellowfeet, lobster, porcini, candy caps, and hogs on the brain. ive only ever stopped in town once tbh. should i just try that like main boardwalky area in mendo itself?

i prefer the older boletes. green and yellow and brown pores. i think they taste way better.  then ill steal the pores off old buggy giants.

i assume that the boardwalk area in mendo is picked clean by the bums. try the town thats 10 miles north.

makes sense. ill for sure give it a try when i go up next. this season i was really determined to find actives. been hunting for four years now and have established quite a few patches. and since im such a foody i never really dedicated myself to non culinary mushrooms which are of course mostly in the woods. but, ive spent the last 2 months scouring the east bay and was literally only successful today. and it was only 3 at that.

heres some of the dishes i made from the last mendo hunt

matsus steamed in their own juices

porcini pizza

cream of chanterelle soup

dinner
