Rebirtha said: That was my reaction too. I did notice the bluing in your first two pics of the pin, it just didn't look like an ovoid to me, possibly another psilocybe. Stunzii have been found in Santa Cruz before though, so its not out of the question.
Wow, I just googled some stuntzii images and found this photo of stuntzii here on Shroomery:
 http://www.shroomery.org/12513/Psilocybe-stuntzii
And now look at this photo I took last year of mushrooms from the spot corresponding to pic #5 in the above post:

On the other hand, it was Alan Rockefeller who looking at a bunch of photos of this patch IDed them as ovoids. And actually other photos do show them pretty cleary to be ovoids...though some of the images I just found googling stuntzii have opened me up to doubt. But not really about that single little mushroom in my first post. Because that would pretty much mean that the mushrooms in pics #2 and 3 in my last post aren't ovoids...and that hardly seems possible.

This morning. A tiny fruiting of P. ovoideocystidiata or P. stuntzii a few inches from where a specimen was found two weeks ago.

Looks like a Galerina to me, Psilocybe gills aren't normally that orange.

I've seen Psilocybes with gills that orange...always on tiny specimens. On the other hand, Galerina don't normally have a white stem with a blue veil.

They Look sort of Stuntzii-Like to me , just because the Stuntzii I found last year had a similar appearance with the almost transparent cap that was very fragile and the blue ringer stem which was much more noticeable with stuntzii than with the ovoids. I've noticed that ovoids stain an almost green color , David your psilocybe could just be an Ovoid but I'm no expert.. Nice to see that people are actively hunting actives

Galerina marginata does have a veil and they turn black when damaged.

Ok, but does Galerina marginata with a blackened veil look like this?

The mushroom in the above photo was growing inches from this morning's mushroom this time last year + a few weeks. And now look at the mushroom found two weeks ago directly on the other side of the piece of wood seen in this morning's photo:

Look close and you'll notice the distinct bluing.

The first one is definitely a Psilocybe, the second one I'm not so sure about.

Well considering that they grew from the same spot, and that the stem is bluing, I'd say the possibilities aren't infinite.

You'd know better than me, I'm only judging by a picture. Galerina marginata veils don't really blacken but their stems often do.

They do, both in grass and in wood chips. But they are not common.

Psilocybe gills can be orange when they are young.

Today replenished my withering soul! Twice!
1. My mystery Psilocybe spot sent up another mushroom! This was found today growing inches from where the mushroom was found seen at the start of this thread. I've become convinced that it's P. stuntzii. T.I.s?
.
2. A cyan patch from last year has announced its participation in this year's season! It was just a few specimens, and they weren't gunna make it, but it's a good sign that things are just waiting to burst forth!

Apropos. A few days ago I came across an old post by Auweia in which he referred in a roundabout way to the mammoth and until now unmatched proportions of a certain season. This was the season of 1997. Guess what happened in the season of 1997, ladies and gentlemen.

I'm curious, what in the pics leads you to I.D. the mushroom as an ovoid rather than stuntzii?
