There are plenty in the south bay, and probably less people looking for them.

Maybe you should change your day off to next week if possible. Twenty four hours after a rain really ain't enough time for things to pop up...unless you plan to be on your hands and knees searching for primordia.

Went up to Union City for work on Wednesday and took as much time as I could looking for actives but no luck. I did however get a much better idea of what to look for. We have plenty of woodchips down here but finding ones with irrigation systems is hard to come by and most of the ones that I do find don't seem to even be in use .
People keep mentioning indicator species, what are they exactly? Also does anyone think that the season is starting later down here? Every time the rain comes through I look at the weather satellite images of rain and Santa Cruz/SF Bay is always getting the best of it! You bastards....

Scott's Nature Scapes color enhanced mulch - Douglas fir + Iron Oxide (rust).

Any mushroom that is growing on wood chips is a good indicator species. The season always starts earlier further north and moves south. The exact start date is random as it depends on the rain.

Thanks for the quick reply! Does the iron oxide on those woodchips inhibit the growth of the mycelium at all? I've always just skipped over most wood chip beds with the red chips because I always just assumed the were too new and/or treated with chemicals.

P. allenii. The dry yield of the second flush of my 10/29 find. 19.5 grams. That's 6 grams more than first flush...though the second flush had the advantage of periodic waterings and leaf-cover.

Found this just now at work. It looks to me lol an active gym but I'm not sure. Looks to be some slight greenish bruising around the gills. Sorry it's upsidedown
