If you have fruiting patches right now in the Bay area, COVER 'EM UP!
Covering your patches with leaves will allow the fruits to survive these horribly dry and cold days and nights. I was surprised how effective the method is! Below are pics of my most recent four finds after being covered for 48 hours...in otherwise lethal conditions.

The method's simple. 1) Douse your patch with a good amount of water, say between 1/4 and 1/2 gallon per square foot. 2) Cover with several layers of leaves, preferably fresh but dried works too. And 3) Toss some sticks or woodchips overtop of the leaves to prevent the wind from uncovering the patch.
When you're done your patch should look something like this:

This method will retain your patch's moisture for at least two full days. You won't need to uncover it and apply more water within that time...and probably for longer. But it's a good idea to check daily that the patch is still covered.
I meant to post this earlier...sorry about that. But if you do have fruiting patches, get out there and cover 'em ASAP. Tonight's gunna be the coldest and driest night yet!

I hope what you are saying is correct DavidR. Last year though I honesty didn't score till the first week of December. I am confident as soon as this years "child' arrives things will moisten up and change for the better, hoping perhaps stay a little warmer then last season too and perhaps extend our season.

The infamous downtown cyan spot is insane. Yesterday I collected almost all of the remaining 25% of the fruits...which, as you can see in the first pic, were damaged by the cold dry air (even though irrigated twice a day.) Being not up to my standard, I stopped by People's Park in Berkeley and gave 'em away to the hippie-bums by the handful. But what's nuts is that the spot is still sending up new pins...there must be around two hundred of 'em as of this morning, when the second pic was taken. So far the spot has yielded a 1/4 pound dry of top grade specimens.

I'm not sure but I think it's a combination of several things: 1) the strain, which seems to be amenable to fruiting in non-ideal conditions; 2) the patch's likely long establishment at the spot; 3) the sheer quantity of substrate, which, appearing to be mixture of woodchips and soil, rises to a foot high mound all along the building; and 4) the fact that I usurped control of the irrigation, causing the spot to be watered twice per day.
One of the most remarkable things about the patch is that it's located all along the sunny side of the building...though it does receive plently of shade from the plants and trees planted in the landscaping. Another remarkable thing is that, while the patch was found fruiting in mid-November, which considering this year's climate can be considered quite early, the fruiting appeared not to be its first flush of the season.

P. allenii. Decided to go ahead and harvest everything at this second flush of my 10/29 find. It wouldn't have amounted to shit if it were't for almost daily waterings and finally being covered over with leaves.

That's awesome. If it's the ideal moisture it might keep pinning and pinning and pinning. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

El Nino will not kick in until well after the active season is over. Feb/March for the wet stuff. If it happens. Grasslands Allenii

Stop tryin' to paint a dismal picture just because your season ain't goin' well. What you're saying would constitute a late El Nino, and that's not what's being predicted. What's being predicted, and indeed already found, is that the current El Nino is following precisely in the footsteps of the previous ones in terms of timing. By spring it'll have long arrived and already be on its way out. According to Auweia, the 1997-98 El Nino provided the best actives season he's ever seen.

Lone allenii this morning in the East Bay.
