That's super nice man. Though to me 21 grams fresh, is a hefty dose!

Gotta represent the North Bay! Found in a new patch today - most were just pinning but a couple were mature. Dumped some water on them since they were already starting to dry out. Will stop by in a few days to collect the rest

Initially I remembered eating 20 grams fresh last year, but now I'm thinking it may have been 10 grams. Lol, oops. I'm sure he'll be fine though. Medium salsa is often still pretty hot.

Today:
1)

P. allenii. Last week I showed a single pin that had sprung up at this known patch from last year. Today I was pleasantly suprised by the patch's progress. The location, I believe, is irrigated at least EOD.

2)

P. cyanescens. I've been patiently waiting for this patch to show signs of life. Finally! It was one of my first ever cyan finds from last year, but this year the irrigation has been reduced. Today I found the irrigation control valve and gave it a nice ten minute shower.

3)

P. allenii. This patch is a new find from last week, a photo of which I shared the day of. Here's one of those landscaping jobs where they put woodchips not over earth, but over a tarp. I'm careful not to water it too much for that reason, for fear of drowning the mycelium. Each time I re-cover it with leaves to hold in the little bit of moisure I give it.

As JayZ said, these are Psathyrella.  Psilocybes stain blue where damaged, and the cap shape is a bit different.  Also your spores look more black than dark purple brown.

DavidR your finds are encouraging!
:seriousthankyou:
I've been hesitant to really get out there due to the lack of moisture recently, however I've been making rounds to last years patches and as of last weekend my north bay patches were still pinless.  Seeing your finds though makes me feel like I just need to get out there and start checking the campuses, parks and mulch piles...

words will have to speak louder than pictures because all my pictures got erased from my camera. Such a mistake.
I've been waiting a week to upload a picture of a cyanescen I found 5 feet from woodchips in the grass. This little cyan was alone and surrounded by hippies so I was suprised to find it.

Many times I find mushrooms it has been unexpected, because I wasn't planning to find mushrooms the day I found the cyan , I just wanted to have a day off from hunting and within 20 minutes of getting off the bus ,  I end up finding mushrooms that otherwise I'd spend all day looking for.

I was at my grandpas work and saw some mushrooms , turned out to be huge patches of Allenii. The second monster patch was found when I was locked out my house and decided to look around the block , bam , across the street was some cyans(past their prime). Another patch was found waiting for my car ride. Another was found getting lost. I guess the moral of the story is , don't expect to find mushrooms , they will find you.(I don't really like that quote but it holds some truth)

Psilocybes are usually neighbors that want to say hi, I really wish I could hunt right now lol. Got to get off the computer first.

Have a good Saturday everybody

JayZ - Nice on those accidental finds! It gives a particular pleasure finding Psilocybes close to home. My fat allenii find from 10/29 is just three blocks from my front door. On the other hand, it almost made me convulse and dry-heave to know that it was there last year and must have rotted...while I was busy searching all over the damn place to find my first patch.

FROM TODAY:

1)

P. ovoideocystidiata from one of my known East Bay spots. This is at least the second time this season that the patch has put out fruits, but I'm inclined to think that a first real flush is awaiting wetter weather.

2)

It was a great day at my new downtown cyan spot, as the time had come to harvest the first generation of fruits...around a hundred specimens. As can be seen in the second pic, the next generation isn't far behind. Remarkably, there is yet a third generation of pins that has sprung up in places that were empty before...undoubtedly a continuing result of my having usurped control of the irrigation.

NCDayTripper - If you want to find new patches this season, don't hesitate. There's no better time to be out there than now when it's dry! Sounds counter-intuitive, but it's not. For only now, before everything's wet, can you go out there and distinguish which woodchip beds are irrigated and hence which will potentially bear fruit when it does rain.

THIS MORNING:

1)

More second generation P. cyanescens fruits at the infamous downtown spot.

2)

P. allenii mature and ready for harvest at another one of this season's finds.

3)

The second flush of P. allenii at my 10/29 find. I'm getting excited about this one!

Thank you Alan and JayZ for the correction. After taking a spore print and seeing the jet black spores, it was clear that they were not p. alenii. Excitement got the better of me!

As a matter of fact, we held a meeting last night about the matter and voted unanimously to forgive you if you get out there and find some real ones.
