DIY Sushi
    #2234537 - 01/11/04 10:37 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Has anyone here tried to make their own sushi or sashimi? I recently bought this kit http://www.cooking.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=119181 I saw at a local Ingles because I love sushi and I was interested in making my own. I started off with cucumber rolls and California rolls with imitation crab in them. I want to move on to using fish but im looking for a place with really fresh fish. I can't seem to find any place in the NW Atlanta area. I recommend this kit or any similar kit to anyone who is interested in making their own sushi or sashimi.

I made my own sushi, but here in Utah we aren't very close to any oceans, so I just made rolls with cucumber and carrots and stuff in em. I wish I had a place to get fresh fish, but I've never even bothered to try looking really, I'm sure even the freshest I could find here wouldn't be good enough for sushi.  Mmm.... sushi

I occasionally make my own rolls, if you have one of those rolling mats and the proper ingredients its fairly simple. Occasionally I'll toss some smoked salmon, but I generally don't bother with the sashimi unless I'm getting it from a restaurant.

My uncle taught me to make it, he makes some pretty good sushi.

I'm getting pretty hungry thinking about it.

You might be able to track down some good smoked salmon... I'm not sure how regional that is, but it's pretty widely available in Canada. It's not exactly the same as the raw stuff, but it's great in rolls.

I could, but it would cost a fortune.  I'd rather buy some  :stash:

liesss, Silicon valley has the best :x

not that i live there.. oh well..

i like to make sushi alot.. i find that getting the rice to the proper softness and taste is the hardest.. personally i wouldn't trust any raw fish unless it's STRAIGHT from the fish market and was perfectly cooled on the way back.. Smoked stuff works well too though..

Llama, how would it cost a fortune? A nice sized package costs around 5 bucks here.. then again, this IS new england and is right nex tto the ocean
